On July 23, 1993, while returning home after spending the day playing golf, Jordan, allegedly tired from being on the road so late, pulled his Lexus over to rest in his driveway.
He stopped in the Parking lot of a Quality Inn at the intersection of U.S. 74 and I-95 south of Lumberton, North Carolina.

Jordan’s urn containing his ashes was placed inside a casket and buried at Rockfish African Methodist Episcopal Church in Teachey, North Carolina, on August 15, 1993.

In 2010, it was revealed that the case was one of nearly 200 under review after the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation found that laboratory technicians mishandled or omitted evidence.
Recently, on October 15, 2024, the judge who presided over the murder case of James asked parole officials to release Green, saying he feared the wrong guy could be behind bars.
Retired judge Gregory Weeks, who oversaw the 1996 m*rder trials, petitioned the North Carolina state parole board, calling on the commission to release Daniel Green.
Judge Weeks said a forensic blood expert failed to disclose critical findings during the trial; evidence could have cast doubt about whether Green was guilty of the illegal act.
