Ex-NFL Player Brady Poppinga’s Son, Julius, Autopsy Reveals Pulmonary Embolism; Family Sues for Medical Negligence

The Poppinga family misses Julius Poppinga on every occasion.

Brady Poppinga, an American former linebacker in the NFL, has claimed Southern California Hospital’s doctors contributed to his teenage son, Julius, tragic demise and sued them.

He married Brooke Hubbard in 2002, and they have four children, three daughters and a son.

Highlights

  • Brady Poppinga and his wife, Brooke Hubbard, sued the medical center for medical negligence.
  • Julius was hospitalized with chest pains and breathing issues on August 27, 2023, but doctors concluded that he was having a panic attack and prescribed medicine accordingly.
  • His autopsy report revealed his demise cause was due to a pulmonary embolism.

Brady Paul Poppinga began playing football at Evanston High School and was an All-State selection at both linebacker and tight end.

As a senior, he was named the Wyoming Athlete of the Year and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1995.

Later, he represented Brigham Young Univeristy Cougars Football and was named to the first-team All-MWC. He was also awarded as BYU’s top defensive lineman.

Brady entered the NFL on April 24, 2005, and the Green Bay Packers selected him in the fourth round. They signed a four-year $2.4 million contract on July 26, 2005.

The Packers released him on July 28, 2011, and he signed with the St. Louis Rams on August 2, 2011, but wasn’t resigned after the season.

Afterward, on November 25, 2012, he replaced an injured Bruce Carter in the Dallas Cowboys. After the Cowboys, he retired from playing and began working as a sideline reporter and analyst.

He was a team member providing commentary for the first U.S. Spanish-language network-televised Super Bowl in February 2014 and currently works at Fox Deportes.

Brady Poppinga’s Son, Julius, Autopsy Reveals Pulmonary Embolism

Brady Poppinga and his wife, Brooke Hubbard, lost their son, Julius Poppinga, on August 29, 2023. He was only 17-year-old at the time of his demise.

He was a high school athlete who was hospitalized with chest pains and breathing issues on August 27, 2023.

Julius’s parents alleged that the doctors from Southern California Hospital negligently concluded that their son was having a panic attack and prescribed medicine accordingly.

They filed a lawsuit this week in Los Angeles, claiming physicians at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center did not properly care for their son.

The married couple mentioned Julius was in and out of consciousness, fighting to breathe, and at one point, he woke tearfully, afraid, yelling he was going to die.

Despite receiving round-the-clock attention in the ICU, his condition worsened, and he lost his life.

However, the autopsy report revealed his cause of demise was due to a pulmonary embolism. Thus, they are seeking wrongful demise due to medical negligence.
