Carol Anne Goodale and her husband, Dean A. Goodale, were married for 58 years.
Sadly, Carol passed away at Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick on February 9, 2025, at 78, after an eight-month battle with cancer.

Born at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Los Angeles, California, on December 20, 1946, daughter of Vernon Ellis Gilleland and Lena Denise Paiement.
Her mother, Lena, the daughter of Eddie and Yvonne Helie Paiement, graduated from Brunswick High School in 1936. Sadly, she passed away on November 21, 2013, at the age of 93 in Pownal.
Her family moved to Brewer in 1952, where she attended Brewer High School, where she was an accomplished softball player and competed in track and field.
Being an outstanding athlete, she was voted “Most Athletic” by her peers.
She graduated with honors and received a scholarship to Westbrook Junior College.
Later, she became skilled at knitting and crocheting and worked at a yarn shop and as a bank teller before deciding to receive her Certified Nurse’s Assistant Certification.
Carol spent much time with her younger sister Paula, enjoying different adventures and being a massive fan of women’s basketball. They used to watch the games and cheer loudly for their favorite teams.
Paula, who attended Brewer High School and worked at McKesson Corporation, lives in Brunswick, Maine, with her husband, Kevin Leavitt.

After graduating from Westbrook Junior College, Carol Anne Goodale married the love of her life, Dean A. Goodale, in 1966.
Recently, Carol and Dean celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.
Carol and Dean briefly lived in South Berwick before building their dream log cabin home in Pownal. They worked side by side on every detail until it was perfect.
They had four children: Michelle Garza, Karen Smith, Dean W. Goodale, and Heidi Lathrop.
Carol’s daughter Michelle married Isaac Garza, while her second daughter Karen married Michael Smith.
Her third daughter, Heidi, married Lloyd Lathrop III and had two sons, Lloyd Lathrop IV and Luke.
Heidi’s husband Lloyd was born to Lloyd Lorenzi Lathrop Jr. of Cumberland Foreside, who passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
On the other hand, Carol’s son, Dean W. Goodale, married Kelley Goodale, with whom he is living at 36 First St, Scarborough, ME 04074.
As per the reports, Carol and Dean had 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
After living in different states in New England, Carol and her family eventually settled in Cumberland Foreside.
Carol used to share her talents with her children and even occasionally taught classes locally.
As an outstanding athlete, she encouraged her children to play sports or dance. She used to attend all their sporting events, shows, and school events.
Sadly, Carol and Dean’s married life ended after 58 years following the tragic death of Carol.
Dean and his children are mourning the tragic loss of Carol Anne Goodale.
Close ones and relatives have condoned Goodale’s family and encouraged them to stay strong during this challenging time.

- Carol’s mother, Lena Denise Gilleland, worked for many years as a secretary for the Brewer schools and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Brewer.
- Her brother Michael Gilleland married Elisabeth Parrish of Conyers, Ga., and Mark married Lisa Bowden of Barnet, Vt.
- Dean’s father, Charles W. Goodale, graduated from York High School. He passed away on February 11, 2016.
