Peyton shared that she had just moved from Vegas when Steven, at 15, was asking the cheerleaders if there were any new girls he could go out with.
They introduced him to Peyton, and soon after, he began texting her constantly.
But their relationship hasn’t always been easy. They spent a year apart in high school and two more years during their missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Steven explained that Peyton went to college during his senior year, but they still kept dating.
He wasn’t sure if she might meet someone else at Brigham Young University, but after a year apart, they both went on missions simultaneously.
Steven went to Indiana, and Peyton went to Paraguay. When they returned, they knew their relationship was still strong. About eight months later, they got married.
On Christmas Eve 2020, Steven Ashworth arrived at his house in a horse-drawn carriage, where his girlfriend, Peyton Burr, was waiting.
Steven had carefully planned a surprise and was ready to ask her a big question.
He had told Peyton earlier that he wouldn’t be able to make it to Christmas Eve because of practice and that they’d have to celebrate on Christmas Day instead, making it seem like he couldn’t be there.
When he arrived, he knocked on the door and asked Peyton to marry him. She said yes, and the two celebrated their engagement with a romantic carriage ride.
Since then, Steven and Peyton’s journey together has taken another beautiful step forward, with the birth of their son, Tommy Jay, in June.
Steven Ashworth And Peyton Burr Rely On Communication To Keep Their Relationship Smooth All The Time
Steven credits his wife for being a massive support in his life. He describes her as his most crucial person, saying she keeps everything in his world running smoothly.
She is helpful at home and supports him on the basketball court, sometimes even coming out to rebound. She goes the extra mile by researching to help him improve his game.
While Peyton loves watching her husband play, she admits it can be stressful.
She feels much more nervous during the games than Steven, but she’s also incredibly proud and happy to see him out there.
Going to the games has become one of her favorite hobbies.
Also, Peyton sees him as the perfect person to juggle his responsibilities as a student, athlete, and husband.
Even with such a well-balanced life, there are times when Steven has to be away, especially when he’s traveling with the team.
The couple rely on FaceTime and texts to stay connected, and since their families live down south, there are plenty of check-ins as well.
They’ve learned how to manage the distance. Communication has been key to keeping Steven and Peyton’s strong bond since high school.
