Biff was teaching European history before starting a career as a hedge fund manager with his father-in-law.
His company, Samuel James Limited, was founded in 1986 and valued at hundreds of millions three decades later.
He and his wife funded $2.5 million of their own money to rejuvenate the Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore. They covered teachers’ salaries, tuition, scholarships, and housing for their players and staff.
Moreover, the married couple has established the Poggi Pediatric Orthopaedic Research Scholar Award.
Biff is famous for wearing cutoff shirts on the sidelines at games, and Amy remembers the first time her husband wore one.
It was during St. Frances Academy of Baltimore’s 2019 season opener at Central High School on a televised game.
She thought he had a polo shirt in his bag because other coaches were wearing polo shirts and saw him in that cutoff shirt on ESPN.
UNC Charlotte chancellor Sharon Gaber and athletic director Mike Hill asked Biff’s assistant to make sure he didn’t wear one in public when they saw him wearing a cutoff T-shirt during a news conference.
Later, hearing the request, he wore them in practices, news conferences, and even in the official team photo.
Amy’s role has been crucial in Biff’s journey, and they have built a family that values personal and professional growth.
