University of South Florida men’s basketball coach Amir Abdur-Rahim passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 43, after a medical procedure went wrong.

USF official Michael Kelly said,
Abdur-Rahim joined the USF program before the start of last season and immediately impacted the program.
The first-year USF head coach was named the American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year after leading his squad to a 25-8 record.
Later, the University of South Florida won its regular season conference and was ranked in the top 25.
He had nearly two decades of coaching experience getting into the profession after graduating from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2004.
Besides coaching, he has played basketball at Joseph Wheeler High School in Marietta, Georgia.
After one season at Garden City Community College, he was transferred to Southeastern Louisiana, where he was a three-time All-Southland Conference selection playing for Billy Kennedy.
He graduated seventh all-time in career points and second all-time in three-pointers made and steals.

Basketball coach Abdur-Rahim married his wife, Arianne Buchanan, on August 4, 2012, at Acqualina Resort & Spa, Miami, Florida.
Arianne Buchanan, 31, was born in 1993 in Orlando, Florida, United States.
She graduated from Stetson University College of Law. During law school, she served on the Moot Court Board, Arbitration Board, and Trial Exam and held judicial and corporate internships.
After graduating, she obtained licenses to practice law in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Then, she returned to Stetson University for a Master’s in Business Administration.
Arianne joined Murphy Legal as a research and contract attorney in 2017.
She previously worked as an insurance defense litigator, compliance officer, and contract attorney for law firms and private institutions in Florida, South Carolina, and Texas.
Buchanan has experience representing clients in high-exposure insurance defense matters, family law, banking compliance, real estate, and contracts and has also taught legal research and writing at Charleston Law School.
However, Arianne is mourning the untimely passing of her husband, Amir Abdur-Rahim, a fun-loving college basketball coach.
Amir Abdur-Rahim And Arianne Had Three Children
Amir and Arianne had two daughters, Laila & Lana, and one son, Aydin Rahim.
Laila, 8, was born on October 13, 2016, and Lana, 6, was born in 2018. Their son Aydin, 3, was born in 2021.
On November 13, 2023, Amir, Arianne, and their kids visited the University of South Florida. They also took a picture posted on Amir’s official Facebook handle.
Amir posted the very first photo of Laila on his Facebook page on May 9, 2016, after her birth.
In addition, Amir Abdur-Rahim used to take his children and wife to his team’s matches. Sadly, his children lost their father at a very early age.
