Professional Wrestler Josh Barnett Appointed As Guest Coach At NJPW Noge Dojo!

Josh Barnett, an American mixed martial artist, submission, and professional wrestler, has been appointed a guest coach for New Japan Pro-Wrestling Noge Dojo.

Through its official site, New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced Josh Barnett’s appearance as a temporary coach on Friday, October 4, 2024.

The 46-year-old Josh Barnett, with his years of experience in martial arts and wrestling, will serve as an interim and guest coach for NJPW.

“Just like my master Karl Gotch, who was also involved in the training of many wrestlers, I am extremely honored to be appointed as a temporary coach for New Japan wrestlers.I hope to be able to follow the basics of ‘catch as catch can’ and the same style of technical instruction as the many legends who have come out of the New Japan dojo. Let’s once again confirm the source of New Japan’s strength.”

Josh Barnett Began His Professional Wrestling Career With NJPW!

This is not the first time Josh Barnett has worked with the New Japan Pro-Wrestling Organization. He began his professional wrestling career with the NJPW in 2003.

Moreover, his first match as a professional wrestler in 2003, on January 4, was with professional Japanese wrestler and champion Yuji Nagata for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Tokyo Dome.

Josh Barnett also wrestled several matches during 2003 and 2004. He further formed a tag team with American retired professional wrestler Perry Saturn in the NJPW tour, Fighting Spirit 2003.

Likewise, during his tenure as a professional wrestler at NJPW, Josh wrestled over 50 matches for the NJPW promotion in total.

After years, Josh Barnett reunited with NJPW and further began working as a color commentator for NJPW’s weekly program on AXS TV.

To date, he has continuously contributed his wrestling skills and knowledge to the New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Before Josh’s professional wrestling career, he also served as a professional mixed martial artist.

He further debuted professionally mixed martial arts in Washington on January 11, 1997, against Chris Charnos for the United Full Contact Federation.
