His mother, Tamika Spaight, is from North Little Rock, Arkansas, and attended Ole Main High School.
She also attended Arkansas College of Barbering & Hair Design and studied General Studies at Arkansas State University.

Kel’el Ware dreamed big in his basketball career with the support of his family background.
He began playing basketball in high school, improving his skills through years of practice and dedication.
Ware’s athletic career was successful, and he received different opportunities throughout his journey.
He turned down offers from Texas Tech, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Auburn, Memphis, Baylor, Kansas, and Illinois and committed to Oregon for his collegiate basketball.
Moreover, he declined Overtime Elite’s offer of a two-year contract for $900,000 and maintained his commitment to Oregan.
As a Ducks’ second center, he entered his freshman season at Oregon but saw a decline in playing time due to an inconsistent work ethic.
He knew things weren’t working out for him, so at the end of the season, he entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Later, he was transferred to Indiana, where he set his career high with 28 points in a win over Harvard.
After the end of the season, he declared for the 2024 NBA draft after the season, forgoing his remaining college eligibility. He plans to make a big name throughout his NBA journey and support his family.
