While Team Canada qualified for the quarterfinals at the 2025 World Juniors in Ottawa, it came with plenty of criticism, especially given the roster decisions made by head coach Dave Cameron.
Criticism continued ahead of their semifinal match against Czechia, as he once again left one of the team’s biggest offensive weapons out of the lineup.
Scott Wheeler of The Athletic has also raised this issue, noting that the team canceled several practices throughout this tournament.
After the 4-1 loss to Team USA, they didn’t skate ahead of a do-or-die game, which they lost.
According to Wheeler, a pro coach asked him that same question on Thursday, texting him this simple question ahead of the game: “Why doesn’t Team Canada ever go on the ice?”
While Easton Cowan has taken plenty of criticism on the ice, that’s on Cameron, too, as he continues to play him in a role he’s not built for.
Dave Cameron And His Wife Kelly Volunteered At The Pizza Shop On Murray Street
Dave Cameron is married to Kelly Cameron, who has managed to keep her personal life private.
According to her official LinkedIn Profile, Kelly is originally from Prince Edward Island, Canada, and is a yoga instructor at Kelly Cameron Yoga.
She has described herself on her official Instagram handle as a yoga medicine therapeutic specialist.
They live in Okotoks, Canada, but in 2018, they lived in Europe when Dave was the coach of the Vienna Capitals in Australia’s capital city.
As per Dave, Kelly and he always talked about going to Europe, as maybe things were winding down.
But after several years, they returned to Canada, and Dave started coaching the Ottawa 67’s of the Ontario Hockey League.
Earlier in 2015, Dave and his wife, Kelly, volunteered at the pizza shop on Murray Street to help owners David Sugarman and Steve Lesh raise money for the Ottawa Rotatory home.
Kelly served on the pizza assembly line and got a crash course on preparing pizza dough.
It was a positive experience for Kelly and Dave, who enjoyed working behind the service counter during the busy lunch rush.
They got to volunteer due to Kelly’s connection with the owner, David Sugarman.

Hockey coach Dave Cameron and his wife Kelly welcomed their first child, a son, Connor Cameron, 40, in 1985.
Connor has followed in his father’s footsteps as an assistant coach with the Charlottetown Islander and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies after playing for St. Michael’s for four seasons in the OHL, Belleville, and Kingston.
He also played two seasons with UPEI from 2008 to 2009 and 2009 to 2010. He was also part of the staff for the Canada for two World U17 tournaments and later became executive director for Hockey PEI for three years.
Connor was named President of the Maritime Junior Hockey League before the 2023-24 season.

Dave and Kelly welcomed their second child, Ben Cameron, 36, in 1990. He is a sports medicine physician who grew up playing competitive hockey and baseball.
After earning a BSc from the University of Prince Edward Island in 2012, he completed his medical school and family medicine residency through Dalhousie University in 2016 and 2018, respectively.
He has worked in multiple clinics across the country in both family medicine and sports medicine.
