Matildas captain Sam Kerr has announced that she and her partner Kristie Mewis are expecting their first child.
Sam Kerr, born Samantha May Kerr, 31, is an Australian professional soccer player playing as a striker for the Women’s Super League club Chelsea and the Australia women’s national team.

On November 18, 2024, Sam Kerr took to her official Instagram handle and announced they expect their first child in 2025. She captioned,
The pair were pictured in a collage of black and white photos, holding up an image of the ultrasound scan and Kerr pointing to Mewis’s baby bump in another.
They shared their joy when responding to a post from Mewis’ West Ham United team on Instagram with a photo celebrating the expected birth of their child in 2025. Mewis wrote,

A year ago, Mewis and Kerr confirmed that they were engaged. The West Ham United Player, Mewis, shared how supportive her partner has been throughout her time with the National Women’s Soccer League.
They sparked romance rumors during the Tokyo Olympics. The two faced off against each other, Mewis with Team USA and Kerr with the Australians.
After the American team scored the bronze medal, the two shared a touching moment on the field.
Mewis sat down on the field with Kerr, the captain of the Australian team, and hugged her to comfort her after the loss.
Three days later, the pair made their romance official on Instagram, as Kerr shared a shot of her and Mewis kissing each other.
Chelsea Pride Condemned Abuse Directed At Sam Kerr After Pregnancy Announcement
Matildas captain Sam Kerr has been subjected to homophobic abuse after announcing she is having a baby with her fiancee, Kristie Mewis.
Chelsea Pride, an LGBTQ+ supporter group affiliated with the men’s English Premier League and Women’s Super League club for which Kerr plays, has condemned the abuse.
While Monday’s post was joyfully met by fellow Matildas players Mary Fowler and Mackenzie Arnold, among many to post their congratulations, there was also abuse leading the pair to turn off comments on their social media.

Taking to Twitter following the pregnancy announcement, Chelsea Pride wrote,
The Matildas captain has been sidelined since tearing anterior cruciate ligament in January, an injury that ruled her out of the Olympics.
