Cowboys release Greg Zuerlein

BREAKING

The Dallas Cowboys have released kicker Greg Zuerlein after a disappointing season in which he struggled with a lingering back injury.

BREAKING

Zuerlein signed with Dallas in 2020, appearing in 32 regular-season games and converting 82.9% of his field-goal attempts and 89.3% of extra-point attempts.

BREAKING

Zuerlein had a cap hit of $2.8 million entering 2022, so Dallas chose to release him, recouping $2.485 million of that total

BREAKING

The Cowboys have also waved tight end Blake Jarwin with an injury designation.  Jarwin has struggled with an ACL injury and a hip injury in consecutive years, and hasn't been able to stay healthy.

BREAKING

Jarwin had a cap hit of $5.85M. By releasing Jarwin and Zuerlein, that saves the Cowboys $8.65M.  They saved $15M by restructuring Dak's contract so have now opened up some room under the cap to sign their many pending free agents.
