Medhurst, a longtime radio broadcaster for Navy athletics, died on January 20, 2025, at the age of 55, after a battle with cancer.

“RIP to a Navy legend. Not only was he a great broadcaster, but a friend, a father and husband. He touched the lives of so many midshipmen in his 28 years with Navy Athletics. You will be missed.”

“Pete – you will be missed. Our hearts go out to you and your family. We hope you find the checkerboard end zone where you’re going!”

Medhurst has followed, supported, and shared the Navy Midshipmen’s journey with viewers for years.

Tributes to Medhurst continue to pour in on social media from the athletic community, demonstrating the Navy Midshipmen’s respect and appreciation for him.

Born in Anne Arundel County, Medhurst also handled football play-by-play for HDNet and CSB Sports Network and lacrosse for ESPNU and the Big Ten Network.

He filled in on radio broadcasts for the Washington Nationals as well. The Nationals said,

“Pete could always be counted on for a kind word and a smile,” “We will sorely miss seeing him around the ballpark and hearing his voice during Nationals broadcasts.”

Wife Brenda Medhurst Announced The Tragic Death Of Her Husband Pete Medhurst

The late broadcaster at Naval Academy Athletic Association, Pete Medhurst, married Brenda Medhurst on October 3, 1997.

Brenda, 54, born on May 8, 1970, completed her graduation from Southern Senior High School.

Sadly, their married life of around 28 years ended following the tragic death of Pete Medhurst.

Earlier, on October 31, 2024, Brenda took to her official Facebook and announced that Pete had been diagnosed with cancer and was hoping to go through a procedure for surgery to remove a brain tumor. She wrote,

Please keep Pete Medhurst and our family in your good thoughts and prayers. Pete has been diagnosed with cancer and will be having surgery tomorrow to remove a brain tumor. We were all shocked and devastated with this news and I am sure many of our family and friends will be too. He does not have his phone but I will read him any messages of support. I am unable to take calls today or tmro since I will be with him, the kids and the doctors. I will update everyone tomorrow after the surgery. Thank you so much for your prayers. We love you all.

On November 1, 2024, Brenda announced that Pete’s surgery went well and thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers.

Recently, on January 5, 2025, Brenda wished Pete a happy birthday through Facebook, saying,

I would like to wish Pete Medhurst a very Happy Birthday today. The kids and I are heading to the rehab shortly and we will decorate his room with balloons and celebrate him. We will read him all of your messages and I know that will make him very happy. Thank you again to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. We love you all

Last night we had to say Goodbye to Pete Medhurst. Pete fought a very hard battle against an aggressive melanoma cancer. He spent his final hours surrounded by the kids and I and he felt so much love. We are heartbroken and devastated. Thank you so much to everyone for their many months of thoughts and prayers for Pete and our family. We are very blessed to have such amazing family and friends. Pete Medhurst And His Wife, Brenda Medhurst Had Three Children

A longtime radio broadcaster for Navy athletics, Pete Medhurst and his wife, Brenda Medhurt, were blessed with two sons, Cody and Ryan Medhurst, and one daughter, Kelly Medhurst.

Ryan Medhurst attended Southern Senior High School and later studied for a Master of Business Administration at Hood College.

According to his Facebook bio, he founded “Mental Willness” and is a recording artist and engineer known as The Walking Flame.

He has been dating Taylor Ann Blaney since April 13, 2024. Taylor is originally from Seaside Park, New Jersey, but lives in Bangor, Pennsylvania, and studied at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.

On the other hand, Pete’s son Cody is a University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) graduate. He married a kindergarten teacher at Montgomery County Public Schools, Jamie Joyce, on July 26, 2024.

Recently, Cody mourned the tragic loss of his father and posted a small tribute on his Facebook. He uploaded a family photo and wrote,

Heaven gained an angel last night. The nicest, most gentle soul of a human fought the most courageous battle against cancer and it will never be fair that he had to do so. The stories we have – have been filled with laughter and joy and pain and sorrow. We will always remember you as the most incredible father, and husband to my mom that you were.He will always be in everyone’s hearts, it’s never a goodbye, it’s til I see you again.
