USU Basketball Icon Jon Wickizer, 51, Leaves Behind Wife Tera And Five Kids

Woods Cross, Utah—Jon Wickizer, a former Utah State men’s basketball player, passed away unexpectedly on January 29, 2025, at 51.

He is survived by his wife, Tera, and their five children: Rock, Katelyn, Kwincy, Kennady, and River.

Jon Wickizer began playing basketball at Woods Cross High School and became a four-year letterwinner at Utah State from 1993 to 1996. 

He was a standout men’s basketball player who followed his elder brother, Nate Wickizer, to USU.

He immediately impacted the Aggies and earned Big West Conference all-freshman team honors his first season in Logan.

A part-time starter as a sophomore and a full-time starter as a junior led the Aggies to a 21-8 record and an NIT appearance in 1994-95.

Moreover, Jon was one of just three Aggies to start all 33 games as a senior and played 31.7 minutes per contest. 

He ranked as one of the team’s most efficient 3-point shooters, averaging 8.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. During his career in the Aggies, he played 111 games and recorded 690 points and 380 rebounds.

Jon Wickizer’s Family Mourns The Tragic Loss

He married Tera Wickizer and welcomed five children: Rock, Katelyn, Kwincy, Kennady, and River. He was a devoted partner and a father.

Avery Barker from Louisville, Colorado, organized a fundraiser to help Jon’s family. His family is receiving support from the community through a GoFundMe fundraiser.

They created a GoFundMe page intending to raise $20K, and they have already raised over $11K.

The Wickizer family is grieving the loss of a beloved former USU athlete, and they have yet to announce his memorial service.

Furthermore, Utah State University announced Jon’s tragic news on Tuesday, February 4. He was renowned for his contributions to USU basketball as a player and a dedicated program supporter.

His legacy extends beyond the court, and he will be remembered for his kindness, leadership, and commitment to his family and community.

Nonetheless, his passing has deeply affected those who knew him, and tributes have poured in from teammates, friends, and fans.
