Spencer Lan, who was a member of the Skating Club of Boston, passed away on January 29, 2025, in a deadly plane collision.
A tragic mid-air collision occurred on Wednesday night over Washington D.C, involving an American Airlines passenger jet and U.S Army Black Hawk helicopter.
The crash resulted in the death of 67 individuals, including champion figure skaters from the U.S. and Russia, as well as several Army Personnel.
The crash site was in the Potomac River, where emergency responders have recovered over 30 bodies so far.
Among the victims was 16-year-old figure skater Spencer Lane, a member of the Skating Club of Boston.

The figure skating community is mourning the loss of several members, including Russian figure skaters Yevgenia Skhiskhkova and Vadim Naumov, who mentored Lane.
A total of six members of the Staking Club of Boston were on the plane, including Spencer, his two coaches, another 16-year-old figure skater, Jinna Han, and the mothers of Spencer and Jinna.

The figure skater Spencer Lane was with his mother, Christine Lane when they went through the tragic plane crash.
His mother, Christine, accompanied him to figure skating camp. His mother, Christine, had expressed her excitement about the program in her January 25, 2025, Instagram post. She wrote,
We’re in Wichita! It’s wonderful how special and exciting @visitwichita has made this event feel! This arch greeted us at the airport and all the hard work put into this season felt a whole new level of “real” for the next generation of athletes. Excited for all @usfigureskating has to offer, and very proudly representing @skatingclubbos !!

Furthermore, she shared Spencer’s tricks and performances on her Instagram stories a few hours before the tragedy.
Spencer’s mother, Christine, was a dedicated mother and a delightful nurturer in his life. She had a series of vlogs about her children.
Furthermore, She was a graphic designer by degree and a photographer through passionate pursuit of the trade.
On her Instagram account, which includes 730 posts, the majority of her posts were about her beloved kids.
She beautifully documented Spencer’s growing phase on her social media account from July 2016.
On Spencer’s eighth birthday, Christine wrote,
Eight years ago, halfway around the world, this little guy joined our family…. I think it’s safe to say that we had no idea what we were in for! It’s sure been a crazy ride, that’s for sure!

Her motherly love for Spencer was beyond admiration and dedication.
However, the mother and son faced a tragic fate on January 29, 2025, which cost the loss of their lives, leaving the family, Boston community, and figure skating community in profound grief.
