The Miami Dolphins have just pulled off a major coup by trading for one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks, Jalen Ramsey of the Los Angeles Rams. According to reports from NFL Media on Sunday, the deal will see the Dolphins giving up a 2023 third-round draft pick and tight end Hunter Long, while Ramsey’s salary for both 2023 and 2024 will be guaranteed.
Although the trade cannot be made official until the league year begins on Wednesday, the wording of the reports suggests that it’s a done deal. Ramsey was a key player in the Rams’ Super Bowl triumph two years ago, following his acquisition in a blockbuster trade. However, with the Rams having suffered a losing season in 2022, they were reportedly open to trading Ramsey as well as receiver Allen Robinson II, to free up cap space and regain lost draft picks.
For the Dolphins, who made the playoffs last year and are clearly aiming higher, this is a bold and aggressive move to bolster their defense. With Ramsey’s addition, the AFC just got even stronger, and Miami’s prospects for the upcoming season are looking brighter by the minute.
