In exciting news for Washington Commanders fans, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Sunday that defensive tackle Daron Payne has agreed to a massive four-year, $90 million contract, including $60 million in guarantees. This new deal makes Payne the second-highest-paid defensive tackle in the NFL, just behind Aaron Donald.
The agreement comes after the Commanders placed the franchise tag on Payne, securing his presence on the team. Payne, who is just 25 years old, reached his first Pro Bowl last season and has been a key player for the Commanders since they selected him with the No. 13 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. With this new deal, Payne will earn an average of $22.5 million over the next four seasons.
Payne is locked in for the long haul and with fellow stand-outs Jonathan Allen, Montez Sweat, and Chase Young the Commanders’ defensive line looks to be a force for years to come.
