Vikings Reportedly Receive Trade Offer for Dalvin Cook

According to SKOR North reporter Darren Wolfson, the Vikings have received a trade offer for the star running back. Although Wolfson did not provide any specifics regarding the team or the offer itself.

The Minnesota Vikings are facing a pressing need to clear salary cap space as they find themselves approximately $15 million over the salary cap. Bluntly, moving on from Cook would put a big dent in that number.

Wolfson further noted that the running back free agency market is relatively weak, with players such as Miles Sanders and David Montgomery not necessarily offering a lot of appeal. Additionally, with Saquon Barkley and Tony Pollard receiving the franchise tag, the market has become even slimmer. Wolfson believes Cook would fetch a 3rd or 4th round pick in this environment.

From the Vikings’ perspective, a trade would make more sense from a salary cap standpoint. Cook has $2 million guaranteed due to injury (shoulder surgery in February), which would transfer to his new team.

The Vikings’ trade offer for Cook is a significant development, and the purported trade could make sense for both parties given the limited options in free agency and the Vikings’ need to clear salary cap space and a move that would take $8 million off the books is something they would have to consider.
