Derek Carr, formerly the quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders, is headed to the Big Easy. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Carr has agreed to a four-year deal with the New Orleans Saints, though the financial details of the contract have yet to be disclosed.
Carr spent his entire nine-year career with the Raiders, throwing for 217 touchdowns and amassing a record of 63-79 in his 142 starts. While he met with the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers during the 2023 NFL combine, Carr ultimately decided to join the Saints.
The move reunites Carr with his first NFL head coach, Dennis Allen, who coached the Raiders at the beginning of Carr’s rookie season before taking over as the head coach of the Saints last year.
Carr took to Twitter to share his excitement about joining the Saints, tweeting “Who dat” along with a video of a raucous crowd at the Caesars Superdome. The Saints are hoping Carr can help improve their 7-10 record from last season, during which Andy Dalton, Jameis Winston, and Taysom Hill all took turns under center.
Carr’s departure from Las Vegas suggests the Raiders may be considering a rookie quarterback with their top-10 pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
So, with all these changes happening in the NFC South, one can’t help but wonder: Who will come out on top? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure—Derek Carr is ready to bring his A-game to the Big Easy.
