Tottenham Hotspurs Champions League Draw

The Champions League draw has been released, and the matchup for Tottenham should be an exciting one. Spurs have drawn Borussia Dortmund, a well known difficult opponent. Dortmund has been electric this season, currently leading the Bundesliga by 6 points. In their league, they have only lost one game also season, an impressive resume of games this year.

Tottenham probably had the most eventful qualification to the final 16, with it being decided in the final games. They showed grit and determination, which paid off. If Tottenham is wanting to continue in this competition they will need to perform as they did against Barcelona and Inter Milan. With a healthy squad, Spurs have shown they are one of the stronger sides in Europe, with world-class talent across the field. Keys to Spurs success will lie in a solid defense, and finishing their chances on the attack.

Starting with Spurs defense, Dortmund has scored 10 goals in the Champions League this season, around 1.7 goals a game. To be successful they will need to shut down lead goal scorers, Paco Alcácer and Marco Reus. These are not the only two threats on their team, they also have future stay Jadon Sancho to focus on. With quick wingers Reus and Sancho, wing backs Trippier and Rose will need to be on full alert avoiding crosses to Alcácer.

Looking at Spurs attack, Kane and his team will need to be active in the midfield providing chances for Kane. Dortmund has only allowed 2 goals against them in the group stages, which is only 0.3 goals a game. This form against some stiff competition in their group is impressive and gives Tottenham a lot to think about. With current performances from Dele Alli, his production has been key for their success. Harry Kane will need to lead by example, hoping to score a few to give Tottenham the upper hand.

With the matches set to happen in February and March, both teams have lots of time to prepare. Tottenham is looking to progress as far as they can in the tournament, and with recent results, it is a possibility.
