Lets break down these Lakers vs Clippers highlights from tonight’s game. The two outstanding players in this Los Angeles derby were Marcus Morris Sr. and Anthony Davis. Morris shot 6 of 7 from three and 70% from the field, scoring 29 points and absolutely destroying the Lakers from the perimeter. Anthony Davis had 7 offensive rebounds and helped the Lakers dominate second chance points. Without Davis there would have been more damage from Russell Westbrook’s poor shooting. Even though Davis missed the final shot the Lakers lost in spite of him, not because of him.
The Lakers were playing even with the Clippers until the 4th quarter, when a barrage of 3 point shots went in from the Clippers. They won the 3rd quarter by 6 points which saw three pointers drop from Morris, Jackson and Coffey. The Lakers played well enough in the 4th to come back and take the lead, but they had no answer for Reggie Jackson. He drove to the hoop consistently and launched the ball from awkward angles, but always found a way to score. Jackson plays like Westbrook if Russ could slow down and be smooth with his ball skills. Russ always plays on the edge of of his athletic ability, playing so fast that he almost looks clumsy. Tonight he gave the ball away twice in the 4th quarter, during a crucial comeback that saw the Lakers just miss out.
The Clippers played a fantastic game tonight, weather the storm that is Anthony Davis and slowly building their lead each quarter through excellent shooting and athletic drives. Nicolas Batum and Serge Ibaka played excellent defense, getting multiple steals and blocks to keep the Lakers’ comeback to a minimum. This was a big game for the bench of both teams, and the Clippers proved that they have the depth to compete without Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.
