Canucks Prospect Danila Klimovich Shows His Hard Work With Abbotsford: But He Has Always Had To Work Hard

Vancouver Canucks prospect Danila Klimovich shows his hard work with Abbotsford. Breaking a slump with 1 goal and 1 assist in a big 4-0 win. It was the first goal in 15 games for the 18-year-old 2nd round pick from Pinsk, Belarus.

After getting out to a quick start with 2 goals in his first 2 games Danila found himself a healthy scratch recently. That didn’t ever seem to diminish his spirits and after speaking with his Dad it was very clear why. “Danila is a very ambitious child. And I think he will become stronger every day.”

Danila Klimovich’s Start To Hockey

I wanted to find out more about Danila Klimovich’s work ethic and his start in hockey. What better person to chat with than Daddy Danila! “At the age of 13, Danila left his native Pinsk for Minsk to play and live there. Then he probably realized that he wanted to be in hockey” I asked about the draft day and what it meant to the family.

Danila Klimovich Settles Into The AHL

“On the day of the draft, Danila trained in Minsk with HC Dynamo Minsk and was in training, where he learned that Canucks had chosen him with number 41. I came to Minsk for Danila’s friendly match, where he scored a goal and on the same day he was chosen by Canucks. It was the best day for our family and we were very happy.”

Something that I got when I chatted with Danila Klimovich after the draft was how important family was to him. “Danila and I are in touch every day, we try to support and help him. We really miss him. And when we have the opportunity we will definitely come to visit. Danila really likes Vancouver [and] Abbotsford, he tells us a lot how beautiful it is in Canada”

The 2021 Season For Danila Klimovich

It was a quick start to the season for Klimovich scoring in his first two games. He would get an assist in his 4th game before going on a bit of a cold streak. Just one assist in 10 games before getting healthy scratched. I spoke with Chris Faber, from Canucks Army, about the slump and what he saw from Danila while he wasn’t producing on the stat sheet.

“He definitely shows frustration at practice when things don’t go his way. He’s got the confidence to try things on the ice and hopefully that doesn’t leave his game because once he can consistently pull off those moves against pros, he will be a lot of fun to watch.”

There were thoughts that Danila might return to junior and play for the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the QMJHL. But he showed strong at camp and a lack of AHL depth may have helped keep him around.

“I think because of the lack of roster players on the AHL team, he had to stick in the league. He’s got the size and skating speed to play in the AHL but just needs to get up with the pace of play and quality of competition.” Said Chris Faber when asked if he thought he would stick around.

After assists in his past two games, Klimovich broke out with his first multi-point game of the year with 1 goal and 1 assist in a 4-0 win against the San Diego Gulls Wednesday night.

Head Coach Trent Cull spoke about the play of his young Belarusian, “Danila made some strong moves at the o-zone blue line and played some good shifts with his line in the offensive zone.”

Danila Klimovich Makes It 3-0

Canucks fans will hope that Danila can continue his form.

“He’s very sure of his game and I hope that confidence never leaves. If he can dial in his dekes and make his shot more consistent, he had a solid chance of getting to the NHL.” Mentioned Chris Faber.
