Whitecaps at Sounders Preview

Preview Of The Whitecaps at LAFC November 2nd: Important Playoff Implications Await

Tuesday night will be an important match for both sides as we look at a preview of the Whitecaps at LAFC. 5 points currently separate the 4th place Portland Timbers (49 points) from the 9th place LAFC (44 Points) in the Western Conference Standings. The two sides will kick off at 7:30 pm PST from Banc Of California Stadium in front of hungry home fans.

“It’s always the same there but it’s a very important game because they know they are 3 points behind us and want to catch us…But if we win we know we are in the playoffs basically.” Said Vanni Sartini ahead of the match for the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Preview Of The Whitecaps at LAFC: Past Results

Before we take a look at the team’s possible head-to-head matchup. Let’s take a look back at the past results in October for both squads.

Vancouver Whitecaps Football Club

The Whitecaps are coming in off an important 2-1 victory midweek over Minnesota United FC. For the full match recap check out right here. Their own goal late in the first half followed by another Brian White goal. A late push from Minnesota but Vancouver was able to hold on and momentarily move into 5th place with 47 points. The schedule is staggered right now with teams making up games and matches almost every day. This meant that they didn’t last long in 5th before being jumped by the very same Minnesota team they beat on Wednesday.

The Whitecaps are coming off a busy October that featured 6 matches. They were able to go 4-1-1 with impressive wins over the top-seeded Sporting KC at home before an impressive come from behind victory against the Portland Timbers the next match. Brian White has been on fire of late for the Vancouver Whitecaps and he will look to continue his hot streak Tuesday night.

How good has Brian been in the Whitecap’s last 5 matches? Just 6 goals and 2 assists including one hat-trick. Caps fans will hope it continues to be a treat and not a trick when it really matters.

Los Angeles Football Club

Bob Bradley and LAFC are also coming off a strong month of October that saw them go undefeated in 5 matches. 3 wins, 0 losses, and 2 draws and coming off an impressive 3-0 dismantling over the Seattle Sounders. Carlos Vela and company will be ready to go Tuesday night in front of their home crowd.

Carlos Vela Looks To Get LAFC Above The Playoff Line

Not to be outdone for the Los Angeles Football Club, Cristian Arango has been even hotter than Brian White. He has netted 7 goals and 2 helpers and a hat-trick of his own in the last 5 matches. Part of the reason LAFC hasn’t lost a match since September 29th. They have had their trouble with the Whitecaps this season drawing 2-2 at home before losing at BC Place in August.

Lineup News And Notes

The Whitecaps should be at full or near full health going into Tuesday night’s match against LAFC. Caio Alexandre and Tosaint Ricketts are the only players unavailable for Vanni Sartini. The rest of the squad should be well rested having not played since last Wednesday. Expect a strong lineup as Vancouver goes for all 3 points. Maxime Crepeau will start in the net for the Whitecaps. Maxime has been my team’s MVP this season with his strong play.

The backline will see three of Jake Nerwinski, Erik Godoy, Ranko Veselinovic and Florian Jungwirth. I expect Ranko to start on the bench as an option for second-half injuries or if Vancouver needs to hold onto a lead. Janio Bikel and Russell Teibert have become staples in the middle of the pitch. Javain Brown and Bruno Gaspar should get the start on the wings with Ryan Gauld in his usual spot.

Vanni Sartini will have lots of options up top with White, Lucas Cavallini, Cristian Dajome, and Deiber Caicedo. It would be hard to see anyone but White and Dajome starting. They have shown a tonne of chemistry and set the tone for the press.

Sports Talk Line And The Vancouver Whitecaps

It will be an important match for both teams Tuesday, November 2nd from Banc Of California Stadium. As mentioned Vancouver can clinch a playoff spot with a win but they have their sights set on higher than 7th in the conference. If they are able to win out and get some help against the Portland Timbers they may just be hosting a playoff match when things restart after the International break.
