Giannis Antetokounmpo who signed a 5-year supermax deal with the Milwaukee Bucks for 228 million dollars. The Greek Freak has an opt out in the final year of the contract. Giannis was adamant in an Instagram message that Milwaukee is his home and he wants to stay there. Don’t get my wrong I believe the guy, but I also feel that if The Bucks aren’t able to surround him with the pieces needed to get to the NBA finals in the next season or two he might be looking for a trade.
Unlike Kawhi, Giannis went with the team that could give him the most money. Jrue Holiday is a good player but is that going to be enough to catch the Heat, or hold off the Celtics, 76ers or Nets? We will see. I still think Masai Ujri and the Raptors will try and make a push for Giannis. To watch how hard he worked to trade down in that 2013 draft and how the team will have enough off the books next season to pay such a lucrative contract.
Staying the in East it was reported that the 76ers would be willing to trade Ben Simmons in a package for James Harden. Obviously Daryl Morey denyied the report right away but Shams and Woj don’t report things on a whim. It also looks like the other destination for the Largely Unhapppy Superstar, Pun intended, could be the Brooklyn Nets. I don’t think they would be able to offer as much back in a package and new GM Raphael Stone has made it pretty clear he won’t trade Harden if he doesn’t get the right deal. Where do you think James Harden is going to play this year?
He is back with the Houston Rockets and played the last night putting up 20 points, 7 assists and 9 rebounds in 27 minutes. So despite looking a bit out of shape after his trip to Las Vegas and LA he seems to still have that James Harden scoring touch. I have never been on the James Harden train. I don’t like the way he plays and I think that his little step back in a cheat code that should have been gotten rid of right when it started happening. I still don’t get how it’s not travelling half the time!
Let’s move over to the west and talk about the Two LA teams that look to be the favorites out of the west once again this season. The addition of Marc Gasol to the lakers is going to provide a tremendous passing presence and defender. The Clippers also added a big man with Serge Ibaka who didn’t play in the teams game yesterday. Can anyone else see the Lakers repeating? It’s not like Anthony Davis is getting worse and it doesn’t seem like Lebron James is either. The two teams will face each other on the 22nd of December to start the regular season.
Tonight and tomorrow mark the final games of exhibition before we get things going for real. We have a couple of games in the books already, some happening as we speak and then the Lakers and Suns go tonight at 7:30 pm Pacific time. I don’t know if we can take anything from this pre season games. For example in the 76ers 113-107 win over the pacers 30 different players got on the court…And one of them wasn’t Joel Embiid as he didn’t play. The Heat took care of We The South Toronto Raptors who were playing their first game at Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay Florida. They have definitely been doing what they can to make it home. The hotel has been redecorated in the OVO brand and the Raptors even brought their championship Banner and have it hung up next to the Retired Martin St. Louis and
Other games happening tonight are the Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics and as a Basketball fan it is nice to see Kevin Durant back out their playing!
8 teams out of the 30 will be allowing reduced crowds, Cleveland, Houston, Memphis, New Orleans, Orlando, Utah and The Toronto Raptors.
Like I mentioned earlier the Lakers and Clippers will play Tuesday the 22nd but will be the 2nd game of a double header as Steph Curry and the Warriors will take on the Nets.
Things get going for the rest of the league on the 23rd. Raptors will host the New Orleans Pelicans and Zion Williamson, New York Knicks at Indiana Pacers. Bucks at Celtics, Jazz and Portland trail Blazers and then Mavericks and Suns to end the night. What game are you most excited about? Maybe it’s the Heat and Orlando Magic? I am just excited for NBA to get back underway with meaningful games.
