Layne was a WR recruit when he arrived at Michigan State, he transitioned nicely into a shutdown corner. He shows the right physical traits and has a good read of the game to excel at the pro level. Leaves a little to be desired as he continues to grow in his role. Has proportionate length and good use of the hands. Best used in man or press coverage.
Needs work on zone coverage and to develop space and route awareness. Doesn’t transition well and can sometimes get caught up in the wrong spot on the field. Can give up soft receptions from this. Needs to continue to grow but has all the right making of a good pro player.
Layne does well in the endzone to stop the touchdown
He has just turned 20 and will be one of the youngest guys in the class. Needs time to develop.
Look for him as high as of late 2nd round or as low as the late 5th round.
