Whitecaps Round 2 Vs The Impact: Frustrations Grow As Results On The Field Don't Add Up

Wednesday, September 16th BC Place Whitecaps Round 2 Vs The Impact

Things will try and be different in the Whitecaps round 2 vs the Impact from BC Place Wednesday evening. After a 4-2 loss to Montreal on Sunday night that saw A lot of frustration by the Whitecaps designated players. Vancouver will look to move on and try and give a better 90-minute effort. The Impact has the Canadian Championship final in their sights a win and their in. Bring on 6:30 pm from BC Place for the Whitecaps round 2 vs the Impact.

The teams are coming off a spirited affair that saw Montreal concede an early goal to only dominate. In case you missed the match check out the in-depth recap here. The Impact were victorious 4-2 at BC Place in what might have been the craziest match I have ever witnessed in person.

There was a spectacular early goal in the 7th minute by Theo Bair. A penalty kick for Montreal after a bad Thomas Hasal challenge. 2 Red cards and an own goal. If I get half that Wednesday night I will leave happy again as a football fan. Oh, and whatever happened with Ali Adnan getting substituted and heading right to the dressing room.

After a short media availability post-game. Head coach Marc Dos Santos, Jake Nerwinksi, and David Milinkovic were a bit more talkative on Tuesday afternoon. The frustration and desire to achieve results were also available.

Pre Match Interviews

Nerwinski was up first and didn't hold back in his feelings towards what the team needs to do to be better. He also mentioned a togetherness they have off the pitch and at training and how it needs to translate to the matches. "When some guys press and some don't you can see it."

Next up for us, hungry media wolves were Milinkovic. Okay, who am I kidding we were tame. He noted the quality the team has in its parts and how it needs to add up. He was also very positive about his desire to give 200% for the club and it's fans and that he wasn't looking ahead to the end of his loan.

Whitecaps Round 2 vs The Impact

Head coach Marc Dos Santos touched on Lucas Cavallini and his actions in Sunday's match, "Listen he learned from it and apologized." The team is still waiting to hear back from the league if there will be any further disciplinary actions for Cavallini not leaving the pitch right away. As of Tuesday, it is only one match. MDS isn't one to make excuses for his team but you have to actually look at the situation the team went through and evaluate things accordingly.

"[It] was difficult to mesh all the guys in Orlando cause they weren't there." The team also didn't have all the pieces when they went out east. Factor in the sale of Inbeom Hwang, easily the team's most creative player, and you can see why there is a struggle for an identity. MDS hopes after a couple of weeks of training with everyone that things can come together for Whitecaps round 2 vs the Impact de Montreal.

"Everybody got to the same stage, and it's my job to make them mesh." It is evident the frustration is also building for Marc after a year and a half of little success and no real identity. Post Media reporter J.J. Adams asked him directly, "It all rests on you?" To which the coach passionately responded, "It has too."

News, Notes, And Projected Lineups: Whitecaps Round 2 Vs The Impact

There were also some hints given by the coach about possible lineups and a formation change for Wednesday night. Lucas Cavallini is unavailable due to his red card for the Whitecaps round 2 vs the Impact. Also still out for the Caps due to injury is Keeper Maxime Crepeau and center back Jasser Khmiri. MDS mentioned that both Janio Bikel and Tosaint Ricketts would be available in the 20.

With Cava out expect Vancouver to try and switch up both two at the front. We could see Theo Bair coming off the bench Wednesday with Yordy Reyna possibly getting a start. Fredy Montero provided a spark when he came on late as a substitution on Sunday. His run help set up the own goal by Rudy Camacho and he picked out Cristian Dajome with a nice ball to set up a Russel Teibert chance. We know we will get at least 1 change for the Whitecaps round 2 vs the Impact.

Vancouver could also make some changes to the back with Ranko Veselinovic getting a start over either Andy Rose or Derek Cornelius. Both players struggled at times Sunday and I would like to see a pairing of Ranko and Derek to start the match. In Midfield we know that Michael Baldisimo will take up his number 6 role. Expect great things from this Canadian kid because he expects them from himself.

Montreal should field a very aggressive lineup. All they need is a win Wednesday night to get into the Canadian Championship Finals. I could see head coach Theirry Henry saving some of his attacking players. Just in case he needs them in the second half for Whitecaps Round 2 vs The Impact.
