Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr

Why Will Anthony Joshua Not Be Facing Jarrell Miller

Boxing Fight Of The Year Will Have New Title Contender

Boxing fans got excited in 2018 when they heard about a super boxing heavyweight title event scheduled for June 1st, 2019. Boxing superstar and undisputed Boxing powerhouse Anthony Joshua 22-0 (21 KOs) was scheduled to fight Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller 23-0-1 (20 KOs). Sadly all boxing fans will have wait for this fight to happen and “Big Baby” is the one to blame.

Andy Ruiz Jr. replaces Jarrell Miller due to Miller’s failure to pass a drug test less than a month before the fight. Anthony Joshua was bumped once he found out about Miller’s failed drug test. It’s easy to see why Anthony Joshua is disappointed with Miller’s suspension. Joshua has trained hard for the fight with Miller. Joshua spent hours to study Miller’s weaknesses and adequately prepared to exploit them.

Now Joshua and his team face a new challenge. They need to prep for another fight and they have barely a month to do so. One may argue that Joshua, IBF, WBA and WBO champion is physically fit and more than ready for a fight with anybody. It’s not that easy. Joshua’s new opponent is 29 years old, Andy Ruiz Jr. 33-1 (21 KOs). Who in physical stature resembles Miller but is not the same type of fighter.

“I think Ruiz punches with more intent to hurt,” Joshua said. “And when you punch with intent to hurt, you punch with an intention to slow your opponent down, so they’re easier to hit. So, I think Miller was going to try to outwork me, muscle me, I think Ruiz is looking for that one shot knockout. Which makes it that much more difficult for Joshua and his team to prepare for the fight. A completely different strategy that you train for from another very skilled opponent can rather surprise even the best champions. Remember the quote from Chinese general Sun Tzu “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.” Joshua is doing his best to know his enemy but time constraints make it that much more difficult for Joshua.

June 1st, 2019 turned out to be more than international children day. This year it should be an international sports day because we will be able to witness a great boxing fight between Joshua and Ruiz in Madison Square Garden, NYC and Tottenham Hotspurs will face Liverpool FC in Champions League Final.
