Whitecaps at Galaxy Week 2 Pregame

Whitecaps at Galaxy Week 2 PreGame

The Vancouver Whitecaps and LA Galaxy will kick off Saturday night from Dignity Health Sports Park. Week 2 will see the home opener for LA and the first chance for the Galaxy Fans to see newly acquired Mexican International Javier "Chicharito" Hernández. He was rather quiet in his first game but was happy to track back defensively. Something LA might not be use to from last year, Cough* Zlatan Cough*. Let's have a look at the Whitecaps at Galaxy Week 2 Pregame news and notes.

Whitecaps at Galaxy are coming in after a 3-1 loss to Sporting KC in their home opener. You can read more about that loss here on Sports Talk Line. The Galaxy played to a 1-1 draw against the Houston Dynamo in their first game. Cristian Pavon scored a beautiful goal for the Galaxy. Vancouver's lone goal in the loss came from an unlikely source in Jake Nerwinski. He also happened to be Vancouver's best player on the day. But he will not play tonight due to a Right Hamstring strain.

Previous Results Whitecaps at Galaxy MLS

The LA Galaxy have the edge in the all time series with a regular-season record of 8 wins 5 losses and 4 draws against Vancouver. They also took there only playoff game in 2012 2-1. Last year they split the season series but both teams have lots of turnover. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Daniel Steres both scored in a 2-0 win at BC Place on March 7th 2019. A night to forget for Whitecaps fans as it was the game Ali Adnan butchered the Panenka Penalty kick.

Vancouver was able to pull off a 4-3 win last year at Dignity Health Sports Park. Goals by Tosaint Ricketts, Theo Bair, and former Whitecap Doniel Henry had the score 3-3 before Michaell Chirinos was able to win it at the death. Zlatan scored once again but he has since left MLS so that's one less problem for the Whitecaps at Galaxy to deal with.

Whitecaps at Galaxy Week 2 Pregame Lineups

Vancouver will make several changes to the lineup that lost 3-1 at home last weekend. Derek Cornelius will come out at CB for Andy Rose to try and inject some more leadership and ball movement in the back. Erik Godoy remains out with an injury and as mentioned Jake Nerwinski is also out. Yordy Reyna did not make the trip with the team due to a common cold. That's all a common cold! Newcomer Janio Bikel will slot in at RB in his first MLS start for the Whitecaps. Tosaint Ricketts will play up top with Lucas Cavallini in Head Coach Marc Dos Santos's 4-4-2. Maxime Crepeau once again gets the start in net. Have a look how Vancouver will line up.

The La Galaxy and head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto will make a couple changes to the squad that tied Houston last week. Jonathan Dos Santos and Joe Corona will slot in for Sebastion Lletget and Perry Kitchen in the midfield. Chicharito, Cristian Pavon, and Aleksandar Katai will be a handful for the Whitecaps all night. The Galaxy will go with this formation for the Saturday night match.
