2019 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs A Wide Open Eastern Conference
A new playoff format was rolled out for the 2019 Audi MLS cup Playoffs. New York City FC benefited in the east. 64 points and an 18-6-10 record gives them a bye in the first round.
New York City FC’s Eastern Conference semifinal vs Toronto FC or D.C. United is now set to take place at Citi Field next Wednesday at 7 pm. #mls

They might not be able to get their regular home field advantage though. The New York Yankees making it into the ALCS. NYCFC may have to play their games at Citi Field in Brooklyn. This is probably best for MLS. NYCFC plays on a mini-pitch and what some would consider an unfair advantage. Home Field should be an advantage but not by having a different sized pitch.
This Shouldn’t be a problem for 15 goal scorer Herber. Along with help from MLS Assist leader Maxime Moralez (20 assists).
The Rest of The East In The 2019 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs
Toronto FC (13-10-11) 4th Seed Vs. D.C. United (13-10-11) 5th Seed –
Form Through the Last 5 Matches:
TFC: 2-0-3 Toronto Comes in Undefeated in their last 10 Matches. Fatigue might play a part with the Canadian Championship, and so Many TFC players up for International duty.
D.C. United: 3-0-2 DC Will need to score goals as they come in scoreless from their last two matches.
Two past draws leave little to figure out where this match will end up. 0-0 results and BMO Field and a 1-1 result at Audi Field and it should be a wide-open match.
TFC will look to their Newcomer of the Year Alejandro Pozuelo to add a spark. Hopefully, Jozy Altidore will be Healthy or it would be a big loss.
D.C. United will, of course, look to Wayne Rooney. Midfielders Lucian Acosta and Felipe will play a big role in the match as well. Bill Hamid was nominated for Goalkeeper of the year and will look to continue on his solid regular-season form.
Felipe is back in the 2019 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2017. He will look to avenge a loss to the very same TFC.
A Tough Rivalry 2019 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs
Philadelphia Union (16-11-7) 3rd Seed Vs. New York Red Bull (14-14-6) 6th Seed –
Form Through The Last 5 Matches:
Phila Union: 1-1-3 The Union head into this match not on good form.
NY Red Bull: 2-3-1 Having a bit better record than the Union but haven’t scored in two weeks.
Both teams won their respective matches at home this year. The Union 3-2 early in June. NYRB won the latest match 2-0 in New York.
Having only the single-leg the Philadelphia fans will play a big part. Another big part will be Comeback Player of the year Kacper Przybylko.
Another award nominee Brenden Aaronson. Who is one of the 3 up for rookie of the year? We will need to control things from the Midfield. The Union had several players and a coach up for awards this year.
2019 Audi MLS Cup playoffs will be big for the New York Red Bull. They ended up in 6th place but had 14 wins, 4th most in the east.
Defender Aaron long will look to do better with NYRB than with the US Men’s National Team. After losing 0-2 he should be hungry to get back into action.
Daniel Royer and Brian White will have to continue their 11 and 9 goals respectively. It should be a difficult match regardless of the 2019 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.
2019 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs a Chance For a Repeat
Atlanta United FC (18-12-4) 2nd Seed Vs. New England Revolution (11-11-12) 7th Seed –
Form Through The Last 5 Matches:
AUFC: 3-1-1 and will look to build on their Decision Day win Vs. N.E.
RFC: 1-1-3 slipped down and barely made the 2019 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.
Atlanta will look to get back to the MLS cup after hoisting it last year. MVP candidate Josef Martinez and his 27 goals will be the focus for the former champs. Julian Gressel should do well to service the MVP Candidate from the midfield.
New England has to change the results from the season. Losing 1-3 and 0-2 at home in April. Carles Gil and Gustavo Bou will need to be bigger in the playoffs. Gil is up for newcomer of the year and will need to get back into the form he showed in his Aston Villa and Valencia days.
This is the first time back in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs since 2015. Missing in 3 straight years after a first-round exit in 2014. New England will try and get back to form that saw them make the MLS Cup back in 2013.
Atlanta will have a passionate home crowd on their side. Attendance should be up over 70,000 for this playoff matchup. Look for more records being set in that category. Look for Atlanta Fans to embrace the 2019 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs as usual.
Atlanta United set another MLS record with 70,526 fans tonight, the largest crowd in MLS playoff history. That means Atl Utd totaled 1,012,571 fans in m2018 and is the first MLS team to surpass the 1 million mark.

This will be a very exciting year for the playoffs. The one and done games will give a big boost to the home teams. I imagine we will see at least one upset though this week.
