The announcement came through a Facebook post from his son. His passing was also acknowledged by Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, which posted a statement on Instagram.
“The Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide family joins in solidarity for the sensitive passing of Miguel Ángel López Días, also know as Rey Misterio Sr.,” the statement reads in part, translated from Spanish. “We send our most sincere condolences to his loved ones and raise our prayers to heaven for his eternal rest.”

However, the exact reason behind his tragic passing has not been revealed yet.
Rey Mysterio and members of the Mysterio family took to social media to pay tribute to Misterio Sr. Aalyah Mysterio, Rey Mysterio’s daughter, honored her late uncle in an Instagram story with the caption,
“Eternally grateful for you Uncle,” Without you, my dad wouldn’t be the person or fighter he is today. Rest in Peace uncle.”

WWE Superstar “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio also paid tribute to Misterio Sr. with multiple Instagram posts, first sharing photos of his uncle inside the ring.
Dominik then shared a compilation video of Misterio Sr. in action accompanied by the caption “Q.E.P.D. Tio,” which translates to “RIP Uncle.”

He has never been spotted with any woman who can be his wife or girlfriend.

He is part of an extended family of wrestlers. His father, Miguel Angel Lopez Diaz, was best known under the ring name Rey Misterio Sr., and his cousin Oscar Gutierrez works for World Wrestling Entertainment as Rey Mysterio.
His father, Rey Misterio Sr., made his wrestling debut on “Day of the Kings ” in January 1976.
He then wrestled with multiple promotions, including Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, Pro Wrestling Revolution, and the World Wrestling Association.
Misterio Sr. won multiple titles across different promotions, including the IWC World Middleweight Championship, which he held twice.
Despite formally retiring in 2009, Misterio’s final match occurred in April 2023 in Spring Valley, California.
According to Cagematch, Misterio, Aero Star, and Mr. Iguana defeated Hereje, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, and Nightmare Azteca in the six-man tag-team match.
His other cousin is a wrestler known as Metalika, and his uncle, Juan Zezatti Ramirez, is better known as Super Astro.
In May 2012, Lopez and his younger brother were caught by police in Playas de Rosarito, Baja California, with a kilogram of the d*ug “ice” in their possession.
Both were turned over to the federal authorities for prosecution.
While it was not initially reported if Lopez was ever convicted of any crime, Lopez later confirmed in a 2023 interview that he was imprisoned for four years for his involvement in the d*ug trade.
