Daleville, Virginia: Gary Gibson, a substitute teacher at James River High School and Central Academy Middle School, passed away at 66 on February 12, 2025.
His family members are grieving the tragic loss in private and have yet to disclose his death cause.

Gary was a standout athlete at Pulaski County High School and played basketball with his brother, Larry. The Gibson siblings were known as the “Double Trouble.“
He was proud of his achievements and considered those years some of the best. Moreover, he never missed an opportunity to share stories of this time with anyone who would listen.
A hard-working person who worked for over 45 years in the heavy-duty truck industry was employed at Truck Enterprises of Roanoke.
After retiring, he worked as a substitute teacher at James River High School and Central Academy Middle School, where he found great purpose and joy.
Gary received a warm welcome from the high school community, and he used to be happy hearing the word “Mr. Gary.” He knew God placed him in a unique role and was forever grateful.
Simultaneously, he enjoyed being a realtor and embraced opportunities to meet many new friends.
Gary Gibson’s Family Mourns The Tragic Loss Of A 66-Year-Old
Gary Ray Gibson, the son of Laura Frazier Gibson and Herbert Ray Gibson, was born on February 24, 1958, in Norton, Virginia.
His parents raised him alongside his identical twin brother, Larry, and younger brother, Tommy, in Fairlawn, Virginia.
Gary loved being with his family above all else and was devoted to his family. He was the best son, dad, grandfather, husband, brother, and friend.
He loved spending time with his 42-year-old wife, plotting sales with his son, and dancing and watching sports with his daughter.
Likewise, he played monster with his grandson. He often debated sports with Larry and went on fishing trips and adventures with Tommy.
Gary was an easygoing person who enjoyed sports, trout fishing with special friends, jamming to rock n roll, and going to concerts and games.
He loved making people laugh, pretended to help with the tasks while walking around socializing, and called it “supervising.”
Our world became a whole lot dimmer, sadder and quieter today. Almost like the brightest light always able to shine against the darkness was extinguished quickly and far too soon. Our hearts will forever have a void that will be impossible to fill for a person impossible to replace. Simply put: There will never be another Gary Ray Gibson. The world was a better place because of him. And it’s truly unimaginable to have to be here without him

Furthermore, his parents preceded him in death. His wife, Gloria; daughter, Jamie; son, Scott; grandson, Andrew, Natalie, and Elizabeth; brothers Larry and Tommy; and sisters-in-law survive him. They have also raised a grand dog, Harker Rae.
Gary’s family will hold his celebration of life service on Sunday, February 23, at 3:00 at Genesis United Methodist Church, with Rev. Warren Carswell and Rev. Jeff Wilson officiating.
Simpson Funeral Home Peters Creek Road Chapel handled the arrangements. Instead of flowers, donations can be made to Genesis United Methodist Church, which was closest to Gary’s heart.
Gary Gibson Was A Role Model And Coach To Many
Gary Gibson behaved like a second father to many and valued being active in his community.
He was larger than life and had a way of making everyone feel welcome and special.
Gary volunteered at Northside High School as a PTA leader, announced basketball games, worked the concession stand, and was one of the biggest and loudest cheerleaders.
Similarly, he was a dedicated Genesis United Methodist member for over 25 years, and his greatest passion was leading his Sunday School classes. He loved learning about his faith and prepared weekly discussions with friends.
Likewise, he was involved in leadership, mission work in the church community, and occasional trips to Honduras.
Gary adored his church family and loved Sundays. He will be remembered for his love for sports and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
His legacy of kindness, hard work, and faith will continue to inspire those who knew him. Rest in Peace, Gary Gibson. God has welcomed his faithful servant home to Heaven.
