The late former chief judge of the municipal court of Providence, Rhode Island, Frank Caprio’s son, Frank T. Caprio, excelled in baseball and football.
Frank Caprio passed away on August 20, 2025, at the age of 88. He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Joyce E. Caprio, and 5 kids, Frank T. Caprio, David Caprio, Marissa Caprio Pesce, John Caprio, and Paul Caprio.
Among his five children, his eldest son, Frank T. Caprio, has made a name for himself on the baseball field as well as in politics and finance.
Growing up in Providence, Rhode Island, Frank had a passion for sports, and he was a standout athlete in his youth.
Frank T. Caprio attended Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick, Rhode Island, where he excelled in sports.
Thanks to his skills, he established himself as a standout baseball player at Harvard University, where he studied economics.
During his time at Harvard, Frank played both baseball and football. He earned a significant role in the team, i.e., he was the captain of the Harvard Baseball team.
In 1988, he proved himself as one of the best players, earning a name as an All-Eastern League outfielder.

Likewise, Frank also received the Wingate Award as the team’s most valuable player in 1988 and the Wendell Bat Award for offensive production.
He also played in an exhibition game against Roger Clemens, a famous Major League Baseball pitcher. Likewise, Frank also caught the eye of Boston Red Sox legend Ted Williams, who scouted him.
Let alone baseball, Frank was just as impressive on the football field. He earned All-Ivy League honors as a defensive back on Harvard’s championship team in 1987.
Despite showing promise as an athlete, Frank didn’t pursue a career in sports. Instead, he focused on his education and future in law and public service.

After graduating from Harvard in 1988, Frank T. Caprio earned a law degree from Suffolk University in 1991.
He passed the bar in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and worked as a lawyer for Cookson Group, a company on the London Stock Exchange.
Later, Frank followed in the footsteps of his father and got into politics early. At 21, while still at Harvard, he was a delegate to the 1988 Democratic National Convention.
In 1990, during law school, he won a seat in the Rhode Island House of Representatives, commuting between Boston and Providence.
Later, he led the Finance Committee and helped cut the state’s capital gains tax for 12 years in the Rhode Island Senate.
From 2007 to 2011, Frank was Rhode Island’s General Treasurer. During his tenure, he made smart moves to protect pension funds during the 2008 financial crisis.

Frank became the first U.S. politician to use on-demand TV and an internet channel for his 2006 campaign.
He ran for governor in 2010 but lost to Lincoln Chafee and lost a 2014 bid for General Treasurer.
Now, Frank is a Managing Director at Chatham Capital, a finance firm in Atlanta, Dallas, and Providence.
Since 2017, he’s also taught finance part-time at Providence College. In 2020, he and his siblings started Caprio Brothers, an investment firm.
