Patty Gasso’s Children, DJ And JT, Are Carrying On Her Softball Legacy

Patty and Jim Gasso are proud grandparents of six grandkids.

Patty Gasso, a softball coach for the Oklahoma Sooners and the United States women’s national softball team, is married and has two children, DJ and JT Gasso.

Since 1995, she has served as the head softball coach at the University of Oklahoma, leading her team to eight national championships.

Highlights

  • Patty Gasso and her husband, Jim Gasso, are proud grandparents of 6 grandchildren.
  • DJ Gasso led Utah to the Women’s College World Series and serves as an assistant coach for Arkansas.
  • JT Gasso is an associate head coach who helped the Sooners win four straight national titles with elite offensive strategies.

Patricia Marie Gasso has compiled a record of 1,558–359–2 and a winning percentage of .812 in her 31 years at the University of Oklahoma.

Her winning percentage ranks the highest of Division I college softball coaches with at least 1,000 career wins.

Recently, she defeated Oregon coach Melyssa Lombardi, a longtime assistant with the Sooners, to reach the Women’s College World Series semifinals.

However, Texas Tech defeated them in the semifinals for the right to play in the best-of-three championship series.

Oklahoma’s championship run came to an end, and the last time another team won the national championship was in 2019, when UCLA knocked off OU in the championship series.

It’s been a joyous ride. I just shared with them in the locker room how much fun I had with them coaching them, watching them grow, watching them be hungry, watching them never quit. The amount of rebounded, like extra inning or last inning heroics and come-from-behind wins has been something incredible… It was emotional, amazing, one of my favorite years of all time, I must say.

DJ Gasso’s Coaching Journey To Success

He spent three seasons as the hitting coach for Utah, where he transformed the program into an offensive, unstoppable force.

In 2023, he helped lead Utah to a Pac-12 Tournament Championship and a Women’s College World Series appearance.

His efforts earned him a promotion to associate head coach in December 2022. He was part of the coaching staff honored as D1Softball’s National Coaching Staff of the Year and ATEC/NFCA Pacific Region Coaching Staff of the Year.

On June 30, 2023, he was named an assistant coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks. In his first season in Fayetteville, he helped lead the team to a 37-18 record and a No. 12 national seed in the NCAA tournament.

Off the field, Gasso is a devoted family man. He and his wife, Grace, married in June 2021 and have two children: Parker and Glory Noello Gasso.
