It has been announced that the University is firing Brown in the sixth season of his second run with the Tar Heels after he led the program to a 44-32 record and five bowl appearances.

In the statement, Brown said,
“While this was not the perfect time and way in which I imagined going out, no time will ever be the perfect time,” “I’ve spent 16 seasons at North Carolina and will always cherish the memories and relationships Sally and I have built while serving as head coach. We’ve had the chance to coach and mentor some great young men, and we’ll miss having the opportunity to do that in the future. Moving forward, my total focus is on helping these players and coaches prepare for Saturday’s game against N.C. State and give them the best chance to win. We want to send these seniors out right and I hope our fans will show up Saturday to do the same.”

The 2024 season was Brown’s 6th in his second stint with the Tar Heels after he retired following a five-year hiatus from the sidelines.
The storied former Texas coach took over a program that had struggled to just five combined wins over the 2017 and 2018 seasons while sinking to the bottom of the ACC. UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham said,
“Mack Brown has won more games than any football coach in UNC history, and we deeply appreciate all that he has done for Carolina Football and our University,” “He and his wife Sally have done an outstanding job supporting the Carolina community, including raising funds for UNC Children’s Hospital while hosting other popular events such as the Ladies Day Clinic. “We thank Coach Brown for his dedication to Carolina, and wish him, Sally and their family all the best.”

Brown quickly returned the Tar Heels to respectability, guiding the program to five straight bowl games behind star quarterbacks Sam Howell and Drake Maye.
However, the 2024 season was a challenge from the start. While the 2024 season marked a tumultuous ending to Brown’s career, he will be remembered as one of the best of his generation.
He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2018, five years after resigning at the end of a storied 16-year run with Texas, highlighted by a 2005 BCS National Championship.
Brown won the Bear Bryant Award for the nation’s best coach in 2005 and was named Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year in 2008.

Football coach Mack Brown married his wife, Sally Brown, on September 6, 1992, in Dillon, S.C. Their marriage has withstood many football seasons.
It happened rather abruptly back in 1992. At the time, Brown was in the middle of his first stint with North Carolina.
According to ESPN, early in the 1990s, Mack’s daughter Barbara said she would move in with Salley. That struck a chord with the coach, and he decided to marry Sally soon after.
Mack met Sally and drove to Burger King for lunch before attending a wedding chapel in Dillon, South Carolina. They got married in just 10 minutes and returned to their day jobs before the end of the day.
Before exchanging vows with Sally, he divorced his first wife and tried not to constantly run the laundry and burn the breakfast for his two daughters.
On October 16, 2021, Mack wished his wife a happy birthday through his official Instagram handle.
In 2019, the couple bought a new home at 330 Tenney Circe for $2.1 million. They paid $10 million for a Figure Eight Island home.

Mack Brown’s wife, Sally Brown, has been working as a real estate developer and is a partner in Texas football.
Earlier, Sally took the North Carolina horse farm, subdivided it, and discovered a passion and aptitude for real estate development.
Before dating Coach Mack, Sally knew nothing about American football. The real estate guru had never been to a gem before she entered a relationship with the football savant.
She is a valuable support source in Mack Brown’s coaching role. According to ESPN, Mack loves having Sally at the playing facility and around his players.
According to the Washington Post, Sally was receptive to Coach Brown’s coaching in one of three places: Hawaii, the Bahamas, or Carolina.
