Monday Night NHL Flyers vs Canucks
Wells Fargo Center has been good to Philadelphia this year. Flyers vs Canucks will look to continue that trend. 6-1-4 at home so far this season. Vancouver will look to hand them their second regulation loss of the year. This will be the second meeting of the early year. Vancouver won 3-2 in a shootout October 12th out west. Both teams are sitting in playoff spots coming into tonight’s action.
After a slow start to the month of November starting 2-5-3. Flyers vs Canucks will give the away team a chance to improve upon a mini two-game winning streak. Coming off a very impressive 2-1 shootout win against the League-leading Washington Capitals. Vancouver will look for a similar result but with a different game plan. The Capitals dictated most of the play and if not for a stellar game by Jacob Markstrom the game could have gotten out of control.
Vancouver will go with Thatcher Demko tonight. He has been good when called upon this year posting a 5-2-0 record with a .916 save percentage. Flyers vs Canucks will be another chance for Brock Boeser to feast. In his 5 career games against Philadelphia, he has scored 6 goals. Scoring in every single game. Something about the Flyers he enjoys. Elias Pettersson will also look to stay hot after having 4 points in the 2 game win streak.
Philadelphia is also coming off a shootout. They were on the wrong side of 3-2 loss to the previously struggling Calgary Flames. Jakob Voracek and Kevin Hayes scored for the Flyers. They can take a lot out of the loss as they badly outshot the Visiting team 38-27. Another performance like that tonight and they should be good to get at least another point. Head coach Alain Vigneault faces his former team for the second time as a Flyer.
Flyers vs Canucks will go with Carter Hart in goal. He had a very strong year last year but has been a bit shaky so far this year. 6-5-0 with a .898 save percentage is not going to be good enough to win most games. Bo Horvat’s cousin leads Philadelphia in scoring through 23 games. Travis Konecny has 8 goals and 15 assists this year. Claude Giroux is also again having a good season. He has 7 goals and 17 points. Both will need to bring their top game Monday night Flyers vs Canucks. Last month’s game was physical so we will see if that carries over.
A Slow Starting 1st Ended With Chances
The first period of Monday nights Flyers vs Canucks game was perfect for the road team. Vancouver was able to get all 4 lines into the game. Both teams were getting pucks in deep but couldn’t gain any control early. The best chance early was Boeser to Tanner Pearson who couldn’t get the shot on Hart. 7 minutes into the game and the Canucks were outshooting Philly 7-5.
Both teams were happy to go back and forth and feel each other out. After the second TV timeout of the period Flyers vs Canucks. Vancouver was able to get it in on the rush with the Bo Horvat, JT Miller, Zack MacEwen line. Some nice for checking and Horvat was able to spin and find Miller in the slot. He made no mistake and roofed it past Hart for his 10th of the year. Horvat had the only assist on the goal and it was 1-0 10:34 into the game.

Vancouver was looking like the hungrier team. It makes sense after the emotional win in Washington on Saturday. A Penalty by Miller for Slashing on Morgan Frost and Philly had the momentum. The Flyers were one of just 4 teams left in the NHL at the start of tonight yet to give up an SH goal. The powerplay didn’t generate much in chances. It did start to tip the ice in Flyers vs Canucks.
Philadelphia was able to close the shot gap to 9-8 by the end of the period. They also started to control the play a lot more. Vancouver’s fast start seemed to drop to a very tentative game. A late scramble around the Canucks net didn’t lead to anything but they were on their heels. Up 1-0 after the first period, we definitely had us a game.
Home Team Tilted The Ice Flyers vs Canucks 2nd Period
Vancouver did something rare in the first period this season. They scored first for only the 9th time in 25 games. This should have been comforting for fans watching Flyers vs Canucks. Vancouver was 7-0-1 in the previous eight games they scored first. The period did not start off comforting.
After Philadelphia controlled for 1:26 in Vancouver’s zone. They were the ones to take a silly cross-checking Penalty. Oskar Lindblom at 1:24 into the period. Flyers vs Canucks were able to kill it off. And rather easily giving up only 1 shot and not letting Vancouver set up in the zone. By the time they had killed off the powerplay, they were outshooting the away team 13-10.
After a solid 4th line shift for the Canucks. Philly was able to rush back the other way. Miller and Horvat failed to clear the scramble in front of the net and paid for it. The puck came right to the stick of Sean Couturier. He made no mistake netting his 7th of the year past the helpless Demko. Voracek and Robert Hagg were given phantom assists. Because well the game was in Philly. 5:54 into the period and we had ourselves a 1-1 tie.

Flyers vs Canucks keep the pressure on. The whole period was a relentless assault on the Vancouver goalie. Twelve minutes into the period and Philly was outshooting the away team 9-2 in the period. Things looked like the Flyers would take the lead heading into the 3rd. If it wasn’t for Demko they just might have. The period ended 17-4 for the home team in shots and tied 1-1. Vancouver had a lot of work to do if they wanted to get a result from this game.
3rd Period Dominating Flyers vs Canucks
The third period started like the second ended. More pressure and chances from the home side. Flyers vs Canucks did not want to end in another overtime game. You could see it by their play. They dictated the start to the period and Vancouver was left to dump and chase. That is when they got the puck.
A 4th line shift by Vancouver was able to force a penalty. Flyers Justin Braun took an interference penalty. This should have been what the Canucks needed to take control of the game. It was the exact opposite. Philly was able to clear and control some of the time in Vancouver’s end. After the penalty was over the onslaught ensued. Demko did what he could keeping it a 1-1 game but it was eventually going to end badly for the Canucks.
Mid-3rd, still a 1-1 game thanks to saves like this from Demko.

The home team kept attacking and at one point shots were 32-14. Flyers vs Canucks were able to get that go-ahead goal. Just after the midway mark of the third period 11:27 in. Voracek scored a beautiful goal past the helpless Demko. Justin Braun and Couturier had the assists. Philadelphia had the lead and didn’t look like they wanted to give it up.
Flyers vs Canucks were very happy after this to clog up the neutral zone. They made it impossible for Vancouver to gain the zone. When they dumped it in, Philly would clear it right out. They had better chances, catching the Canucks taking risks. The few shots that they did allow were covered or steered to the corner by Hart. He wasn’t called upon much but made the saves when he needed too.
Vancouver pulled Demko with a couple minutes to go in the game. They couldn’t get past the Flyers trap. Several free shots from past center ice at the open net all missed. Canucks were able to get into the zone and set up 6-5 with 30 seconds left. The home team did what they had all night Flyers vs Canucks. They pressured the boards and forced turnovers. Vancouver was able to move it around and get a final shot. Quinn Hughes fanned on the shot which summed up the game for the Canucks.
Road Trip Continues After 2-1 Defeat
Final score Flyers vs Canucks 2-1. Shots were 34 to 17 in favor of the home team. Thatcher Demko can’t be blamed for this game as he had 32/34 saves. A lot of them very tough saves. It was a game to forget for Vancouver. After a strong first period, they ran out of gas. Philly was able to control the play and get shots when they wanted.
Vancouver will continue on its season-long 6 game road trip. 2-2-0 so far with a game against the Pittsburg Penguins on Wednesday night. The Penguins are without Sidney Crosby after stomach muscle surgery. They are still 13-7-4 and a very strong team. Markstrom will most likely be back in net for the Canucks.
Philadelphia will travel to Columbus for a game against the Blue Jackets. They will look to stay in the playoff hunt after tonight’s win. Flyers vs Canucks should give them a lot to build from. Carter Hart wasn’t tested much but he made the saves he needed too. That is what get’s your team wins.
