Vancouver Vs Washington NHL A Battle Of Two Top Teams
Friday night had Vancouver Vs Washington NHL in a real test for the Canucks. Coming in after a strong 3-1 road trip. The Canucks were tripped up at home by the Washington Capitals. The Capitals played last night in edmonton where they suffered an overtime loss. They started the night off slow but were able to eventually get back into the game. A great battle of two of the NHL’s higher point teams.
Both teams featured some prolific goal scorers. For Washington one who is on pace to surpass Wayne Gretzky’s scoring record. Alexander Ovechkin is one of the more talented players of our time so Vancouver fans were in for a show. For the Canucks Calder Trophy winner, Elias Pettersson was looking to burst out of his early-season slump.
The Canucks had a big lead with 1 minute to go in the second period. A late goal making it 5-2 and they could never recover. The Capitals found their legs and poured it on in the third period. Making it 5-5 heading into overtime Vancouver vs Washington NHL was going to be good.
Home Team Vancouver Vs Washington NHL Came Out Strong
It was obvious the Washington Capitals played last night and the Canucks were at home waiting. Washington started the game with energy. After a back and forth start to the game, The Canucks 3rd line was stuck in their own end. Chris Tanev was unable to clear it from the zone giving Washington another chance. They didn’t capitalize until a later Michale Ferland Turnover led to the puck being in the back of the Canucks Net. Vancouver vs Washington NHL was going to be exciting.
Evgeny Kuznetsov took the puck and buried it past a helpless Jacob Markstrom. 1-0 Capitals and they were off and rolling 3 minutes into the game. However, it did not take long for the Canucks to get their footing. Michael Kempny took a hooking Penalty on Pettersson just 2 minutes later. After an impressive bit of puck movement, Brock Boeser put one home from Horvat and Hughes to tie it at 1.
Vancouver vs Washington looked to be on the offensive until a penalty to Tanner Pearson at the 7:21 mark for Hi Sticking and the Caps had a chance again. The faceoff went over from Jay Beagle to Tim Schaller and he did the rest. Rushing down the left side Schaller used his cheat code. A seeing eyeshot was able to get past Ilya Samsonov. The Canucks were outplayed for the first period but ended up on the score sheet.
Markstrom was big in the first making numerous saves to keep his team in it early. The Capitals looked like the team that played last night. They were busy taking it to Vancouver early. Tom Wilson was hitting everything that skated. We were in store for a good second period in Vancouver Vs Washington NHL.
Dominant Second Period For The Canucks
Vancouver Vs Washington NHL was a second period for the home team. Vancouver came out with guns blazing. After some rough stuff were Ferland took exception. The Lotto Line (Credit Jacob) came out and took control with Pettersson firing one top corner short side to beat Samsonov and the Canucks took a 3-1 lead.
Back and forth play and neither team could establish anything. Markstrom again made some nice saves off the rush. Canucks got another powerplay and almost converted again but Petey hit the Crossbar and they looked to the heavens. A very active first unit Powerplay. Quinn Hughes looks to be a key piece to quarterback going forward.
After a change in play by Washington where they pestered Markstrom with a couple of shots, the Canucks were able to win it back. Schaller used another cheat code and whacked the puck out of mid-air. Goal Vancouver! 4-1 and things were getting out of hand. Vancouver vs Washington NHL might be a blowout.
It continued in this way. Less than a minute later at the 14:54 mark. Some hard work by the Canucks 2nd Line of Horvat, Virtanen, and Ferland led to a 5-1 goal. This line looked pretty good all night except for an early turnover. #ShotGunJake was the lucky goal scorer. Ferland did some hard work down the wing gave it to Horvat and Jake put it in the back of the net. It should have been over.

Washington wasn’t going away! Late pressure and Kuznetsov fired his second of the game past Markstrom with 0.3 left on the clock. A bit of kick in the pants to the Canucks who had such a great period but a 5-2 lead shouldn’t have been a problem at home. Vancouver had the edge 25-16 in shots after 2 periods.
A 3rd Period to Forget Vancouver Vs Washington NHL
What a way to start the period. A high sticking penalty on Jakub Vrana and Vancouver Vs Washington NHL could close this game out. Not what happened. Lars Eller was left unchecked in the slot and Garnet Hathaway’s pass was able to slide off Eller and past Markstrom. An unlucky goal but one that would change the momentum in the game.
The Canucks couldn’t score on the rest of their powerplay. After some back and forth action Washington was able to get the puck to the Point. Michal Kempny was able to get it through the screen of players and we had ourselves a game at 5-4. Vancouver looked rattled at this point and was not able to get a solid attack going.
Kempny tied it up shortly after at the 8:41 mark of the 3rd period. Another shot that beat Markstrom. Boyd had a great screen and all of a sudden Vancouver Vs Washington NHL was tied up late into the 3rd period. Chances for both teams but the goalies were making great saves. They finished with 24 and 29 saves respectively.
Travis Green was not happy with his team or the Ref’s come post-game. I can see where he is coming from after giving up a 5-1 lead but hey everyone loves 3-3 Overtime!

Overtime Fun Leads to Shootout
I don’t understand why the NHL doesn’t get rid of the Shootout and have games decided by 3 on 3. It is so exciting! No matter what team you watch 3 on 3 gives you all the skills you could ask for. Take The Edmonton Oilers OT win last night against the very same Capitals.

That makes for some exciting Hockey! Friday night Vancouver Vs Washington NHL was much of the same. Back and forth chances. Goalies having to come up huge both Markstrom and Samsonov. Pettersson, Boeser, and Hughes making Magic for the Canucks. Ovechkin, Backstrom, and Carlson for the Capitals.
No one could beat the Goalies so we were off to a shootout. With this kind of talent in Vancouver Vs Washington NHL this had the making to be an exciting one. Imagine though for a second if the 3 on 3 continued? That would be more exciting than a shootout but we can only hope.
Vancouver vs Washington NHL started off with Boeser going for the glove side but being denied by Samsonov. The first shooter for the Capitals was TJ Oshie who came in slow and fired a wrist shot past Markstrom. 1-0 Washington. The Alien came with a beautiful goal to make it 1-1.
Kuznetsov had his luck from the game not work out as he was stopped by Markstrom on a slow deke. Vancouver’s Pearson was also stopped on his shoot attempt. This left the door wide open for Nicolas Backstrom to win it. And win it he did, a beautiful shot and the Capitals take the full 2 points.

A lot to be happy and disappointed for after Vancouver vs Washington NHL. The Canucks jumped out to a big early lead and that should have been enough. It wasn’t as they faced off against a top team that knows how to get it done. They can come back when they feel a team at a weak point. and the Canucks were in the 3rd period.
It was a tough result Vancouver Vs Washington NHL but there was a lot to learn from the loss. Mainly you can not let up against good teams. 5-1 in 20:01 became 5-5. This is a scoring league and if the Canucks are going to take the foot off and not score they are going to get scored on. Lucky to salvage the one point tonight.
Regardless Vancouver Vs Washington NHL was a high scoring exciting game! Looking forward to Monday night when they host the Florida Panthers.
