NFL Insider – Oct 4th, 2019

Sports Talk Line NFL Insider

Flip the switch! It’s the NFL Insider, where we talk about what is being reported and what it means. For Oct 4th, 2019 the Seahawks are for real. Stefon Diggs wants out. Roquan Smith wants in. Sam Darnold feels good enough to play. Saquon Barkley doing running back things in practice and Vontaze Burfict is going to be represented by the NFLPA as he appeals his suspension for abusing players.

Vikings Stefon Diggs Wants Out

I called it yesterday and today Stefon Digs confirmed it. He wants out of Minnesota and this is going to get ugly before it gets better. The new norm in today’s NFL. The biggest player interruption problem used to be getting rookie deals signed. The CBA fixed that. Now it’s keeping guys on the field when they get frustrated with the workplace. My how times have changed.

Bears Roquan Smith Wants In

With no explanation, the Bears designated Roquan inactive last week in the win over the Vikings in what the team is calling an “internal matter.” It looks like things have worked out as Smith is traveling with the team to London and all indications are he will be playing on game day. I am thinking he will be on time for the team meetings. Check out the game preview here.

Jets Sam Darnold Feeling Good

The New York Jets season-savior is “feeling good enough to play” according to the man who should know, Sam himself. Mononucleosis is nothing to laugh out however and he will continue to work through the protocol the team doctors have set up for his return.  That being said he was getting 1st team reps in practice which is very telling. He has not been officially cleared for full contact and is listed as “limited” by the team. The bottom line is the Jet’s are sunk without him at the helm and they want him back ASAP. Like this week ASAP.

Giants Saquon Barkley Cutting and Running

Another team, another guy looking to come back early from injury. This time Barkley is trying to channel his inner-Adrian Peterson and comeback VERY early for his team.

Don’t get too excited Fantasy Football fans. He will NOT be returning this week. However, it does look like he will beat his 6-8 week timetable if he is already doing the above on day 11.

Raiders Vontaze Burfict Appeals Suspension

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has reported the Burfict appeal will be hard on Tuesday and that HOF LB Derrick Brooks will be officiating.

Here is what I don’t get. Vontaze is suspended for repeatedly using illegal techniques that have been specifically pointed out as such that have had and continue to have disastrous effects on the well being of the players.

In effect, the NFLPA is trying to get a lighter sentence for a guy that is hurting their own. Am I the only one here who thinks this is whack? The union should be asking for a tougher penalty in my opinion.

If I am a player that has been hammered by this guy on an illegal play (it’s a long list) I am on the phone right now asking the union what the HECK my dues are paying for!

If there is any justice Brooks will hand down a stiffer suspension than the rest of the season ban currently in effect.
