Giants vs Cowboys

Lethal Combo Dooms Giants in Week One

It was the result many Giant fans predicted but no Giant fan wanted. Traveling to Dallas to start the 2019 season a lethal combo dooms Giants in week one.  All the talk about Daniel Jones replacing Eli Manning or the new and improved offensive line went for nothing in Jerry’s World

The followers of the G-Men could just sit back and watch as they Cowboys dismantled Big Blue.

The first part of the lethal combo that dooms Giants in week one was a lack of a pass rush. From Sam Huff to Lawerence Taylor to Michael Strahan the Giants always had one pass rush threat that concerned if not brought fear to the Giant opponents. On virtually all passing plays Dak Prescott had all the time in the world to connect with whatever receiver. While this by itself is an issue combined with the second factor formed a lethal combo that dooms Giants in week one.

The second issue was that the Giants secondary was unable to match up with the Cowboys wide receivers. The secondary was a need in the offseason and David Gettleman drafted three cornerbacks in the 2019 NFL draft. The Cowboys fully exploited the young and inexperienced secondary.

Many times when Prescott threw to a Cowboys receiver there was no Giant defender in the vicinity. The Dallas receiving core would almost run by their defender into open space with little if any resistance throughout the afternoon.

The end result is that Dak Prescott had a career day and just brought up his value for his upcoming contract. Same could be said with Amari Cooper, even Michael Gallup. And this occurred because of the lack of a pass rush and a weak secondary dooms Giants in week one.
