Do Cowboys Have The Best LB Group in the League?

The Cowboys have talent across the board but just might have one position group that is the absolute best in the NFL. Linebackers!

It doesn't get any better than Jaylon Smith, Leighton Vander Esch, and Sean Lee. While the Boys boast a loaded offensive line, have one if not the best running back in the league, the team is absolutely loaded at linebacker.

Jaylon Smith looked healthy for the first time in his NFL career last season, as he laid the wood too many times to count. Whether we are talking about the hit on Eli Manning that turned into meme gold or the gut brainbuster he laid down on Alvin Kamara, Smith is a bully on the field.

Smith finished with the 6th highest linebacker grade from profootballfocus with an 84.5. He filled the stat sheet with 121 tackles, 6 tackles for a loss, 6 QB hits, 4 sacks, and 4 passes defended and 2 forced fumbles. His future is beyond bright.

Leighton Vander Esch didn't go through typical rookie struggles. The "Wolf Hunter" has a nose for the ball and proved to be a tackling machine. LVE ended up as proffotballfocus' 4th highest graded linebacker with a grade of 85.7. Not bad for a rookie.

He piled up the numbers as well with a whopping 140 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 7 passes defended, and 2 INT's. Remember he only started 11 games and missed leading the league in tackles by 23. He has a great chance to lead the league this year and should be getting the Pro Bowl nod from here on out.

Finally, the Cowboys are moving Sean Lee to the Sam. The strongside backer isn't really considered a starter anymore with as many 3 receiver sets teams run and how often the defense is in nickel, but what a great 3rd linebacker to trot out there.

There is talk of getting this three-headed monster out there at the same time, and when that happens team will not be able to run. Instead of calling the Boys linebackers VanJaylon, we just may have to come up with a new one.
