All-Pro OG Larry Warford - $7 Million Upgrade

Here's a trick question. Could your team use an All-Pro addition/upgrade at OG? A question that is normally asked before NFL Free Agency or the NFL Draft is being bandied about now as the fates have aligned around All-Pro OG Larry Warford to offer just such a choice for needy NFL teams. Is one yours?

All-Pro OG Larry Warford - Free Agent

As the saying goes, you don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Rather than worry about why All-Pro OG Larry Warford is available, hurting teams need to just pick up the phone and make the call.

Warford played at an All-Pro level these last three seasons with the Saints. There is no appreciable reason to think that has changed for the 29-year-old. The only two things that teams are looking at right now are:

  1. Can we afford him
  2. Is he an upgrade over what we have now

If the answer to both is yes then your team is probably in on the sweepstakes. The man's asking price is reportedly in the neighborhood of his former base Saints salary for this season of $7 million.

The Dallas Cowboys need some helps with All-Pro OC Travis Fredrick retiring due to illness. The San Francisco 49ers are trying to get over the hump and win it all. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need all the short term help they can get. The Kansas City Chiefs want to stay at the top as long as they can. The New York Giants are trying to rebuild their OLine before their all-world RB is out of his rookie contract.

Safe to say, his agent's phone is ringing quite steadily at the moment.

Reportedly the salary-cap gods deemed the New Orleans Saints could no longer afford to keep All-Pro OG Larry Warford around any longer. Yaaaa, that decision would normally have been made MUCH earlier in the year if that were the "only" reasons. There has to be more to the story but what that may be, no one is talking about at the moment. We will wait. The other shoe always drops. You don't let an All-Pro OG walk when you can afford to keep him and make no bones about it, just a few short days ago, they could.

One team's loss is another's gain. Larry Warford is a handful. Where he ends up is something to keep an eye on.
