Eli Manning benched giants start rookie qb jones

Eli Manning Benched - Giants Start Rookie QB Jones

The Tuesday AM briefing delivered the news we knew was coming, we just didn't know when. "Eli Manning Benched" will be the headlines on many a fish wrap in the New York area much sooner than anticipated.

Tuesday morning press rooms for NFL teams are staples of information for the week. The Giants dropped a bombshell this Tuesday morning announcing that Eli Manning is benched. We all knew it was coming sometime this season, we just didn't know when. We do now.

Giants Start Rookie QB Jones

When Jones had a dazzling preseason the talk began and when the New York Giants opened the season in a dismal 0-2 fashion there really was no reason not to make the switch now. It's time to open the gift box and see what's inside. More importantly, can their new Franchise QB operate in the regular season. Many a preseason darling has withered under the harsh glare of regular season lights and Jones has to pass this next test.

Pat Shurmur passed along via the team's website that he had indeed had discussions with both Eli Manning and Daniel Jones personally.

The Eli Manning era is over. The Daniel Jones era is here. The king is dead. Long live the king.
