Valentine Holes Aussie NY Jets

Aussie Valentine Holmes Makes Debut for Jets

Aussie Valentine Holmes played his first snaps for the Jets last weekend and looked good.

Valentine Holmes stepped on the field on Friday last week for his first professional game in the NFL preseason opener for the Jets against the Giants.

The 24-year-old Australian only took up the game in January and looked at home immediately.

Holmes is looking to join the Jets squad of 53, after being given a spot through the International Pathways Program. He is being touted as a RB and will have a contest on his hands to take reps from Le’Veon Bell, Elijah McGuire, Ty Montgomery, and Bilal Powell, but the signs were looking good when he entered the game in the fourth quarter.

He had three rushing attempts for 6 yards, one of which was a nice 5-yard carry through traffic. It was his receiving that made the NFL stand up and take notice. With three receptions for 30 yards including a darting run of 14 yards through defenders before being tackled hard.

Holmes spent most of his adult life playing Rugby League in Australia and is used to getting hit by big boys, he can handle it.

It will be an uphill battle for him to make the squad, but he is improving every day. He will need to see game time this weekend when the Jets take on the Falcons.
