Strengths:
Winovich is one of the hungriest edge rushers in this draft. He has a huge heart and never slows down. The pressure he exerts on quarterbacks is unbelievable. He has an understanding of the game that not many young players have. The ability to defeat blockers and get after the QB will put him in good stead in the NFL. He bends well and gets around the arc, causing headaches for defenders all game. Winovich will be an instant starter in the NFL and a rock to build your defense around.
Weaknesses:
There a few things I don’t like about his game. He lacks explosiveness. For a guy who is so dangerous if you have the ball in your hand, he lacks the ability to get off the line fast enough. Flexibility is poor, if he gets pushed around the arc, he struggles to get himself back inside his man. Change of direction speed isn’t good either, but this can be worked on.
Lateral mobility needs to improve when moving along the line.
Giphy:
Winovich, playing right edge, brushes asides his man and gets after the QB
Pro Comparison:
Clay Matthews in looks and playing style
Overall Review:
Once he is off the line and hunting the QB, he is a deadly prospect. All in all, he is a quality player who should fit nicely into anyone’s franchise. Look for him to go early day two.
