Highlights
- Josh McDaniels is expected to be hired as the new offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots.
- McDaniels was born to his father, Thom McDaniels, and his mother, Christine McDaniels.

McDaniels returns to New England a year and a half removed from a failed stint as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, where he was 9-16 in fewer than two seasons before he was fired midseason in 2023.
But before his run with the Silver and Black, McDaniels was a highly regarded OC in New England for much of the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era.
Josh became the Patriots’ offensive coordinator in 2006. In 2007, he oversaw a record-setting offense for a New England team that finished just shy of becoming the second-ever undefeated Super Bowl champion.
Josh’s top priority in New England will be developing quarterback Drake Maye, who just completed a successful rookie season.
He had previously shown an ability to work with a young signal-caller as he coached Mac Jones to his best year in the NFL when he was a rookie in 2021 with the Pats.
Josh McDaniel’s Parents Inspired Him To Build His Career As A Football Coach
The offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots, Joshua Thomas McDaniels’, 48, was born on April 22, 1976, in Barberton, Ohio, to his father, Thom McDaniels, and his mother, Christine Jung McDaniels.
His parents are initially from the United States and hold white ethnicity.
Josh’s father, Thom McDaniels, was a head coach for 26 years, including stops at Warren G. Harding High School, Canton McKinley High School, and Massillon Jackson High School.
Thom coached for 40 years and was named to the Ohio High School Coaches Hall of Fame. He was also a finalist for NFL High School Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2010.
In 1997, USA Today named him national high school football coach of the year after he led his Canton McKinley team to state and national titles.
Additionally, he has coached several notable players, including Percy Snow, Mike Doss, Maurice Clarett, and Mario Manningham.
This inspired Josh to follow in his father’s footsteps and build his career as a football coach.
He used to attend his father’s practices during his youth, which has been credited with inspiring Josh to enter coaching.
On the other hand, little is known about his mother, Christine, who graduated from Doylestown High School in 1970.
In 2017, Christine and Thoms appeared at NRG Stadium to watch a Super Bowl LI match between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons.
Moreover, the New England Patriots won the match, and Josh’s parents watched him lift the Lombardi Trophy.
