NBA Restart Date set

NBA Restart Date Set!

Today is the day we have been waiting for - NBA restart date is set! It's been over 2 and a half months with no basketball and any major sport. We slowly see some Sports leagues reopening - Bundesliga, Premier League, UFC but so far there was very little news on when US-centric sports leagues will reopen.

NBA is arguably the closest to reopening. NBA Board of Governors is expected to approve season format on Thursday, June 4th. Per the latest reports July 31st is the set as NBA restart date.

This report comes from The Athletic's Shams Charania. Charania claims that the NBA has set July 31 as the target date for its return and according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski 20-22 teams are expected to be invited to Orlando Disney Resort for the NBA restart.

Logistical Problems Related to NBA Restart

Restarting NBA way past it's NBA playoffs will not be an easy task for several reasons.

Players Potential Injury

NBA is a very intense and physical league and players get injured on a regular basis. Now factor in the 2 months of very little minimal training and give players only several weeks to get back to shape and prep for the high intensity of the league.

We have witnessed in many instances how unmerciful covid "sports holiday" was towards players in different sports...

In Bundesliga (soccer) the cleavage between the top teams and the rest widened even further and all indications support that the same will happen in all other sports that will come back sooner or later.

The high tempo of basketball will stress athletes' bodies and many out of shape players will be force to compensate for lack of their stamina and shoot accuracy by playing more physical which can easily lead to many more injuries that would not have happened otherwise.

When Will the NBA 2020/21 Season start?

This may be the biggest issue of them all... NBA 19/20 season being delated late into the summer and playoffs taking place till fall (possibly even up to October) the question arises "When will the next NBA season start?".

Fans would love for NBA to start right after the end of playoffs but sadly that will not gonna happen and here is why -

  1. Players need to rest after intense NBA playoff
  2. Team managements have to figure out what changes their respective team needs to be more competitive
  3. Roster Players in the summer league need a chance to impress their teams

If next season were to begin on Christmas Day as many have speculated, that would give players less than three months off before games started again. In addition, this would make the NBA 2020/21 season significantly shorter.

What's your opinion on NBA season restart?

Would you like to see the NBA go till October knowing that the next season would be drastically shorter, or would you scrap playoffs instead?
