Owen Caissie, the Canadian professional baseball player for the Chicago Cubs, was born on July 8, 2022. His father, Jason Caissie, also played Hockey and Baseball while growing up.
This has helped the 23-year-old Canadian to rise above the ranks and get drafted into the MLB.
Owen grew up in Burlington, Ontario, and went to Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School. While he was at the school, his amateur baseball career had already started.

Slowly, he gained exposure and was selected for the Canadian Junior National Team and even represented his country.
His father also said he was a hard worker even before he was a teenager. He said, “At Age 12, I could see him starting to work harder, starting to focus solely on that (basketball).” He hasn’t let up on the gas pedal ever since.”
A Remarkable Journey For The Outfielder
During his college days, he played for the University of Michigan, competing in the NCAA. Unfortunately, he chose not to attend the University to pursue a professional career, as the San Diego Padres drafted him in June 2020.
He was a 2nd round, 45th overall pick during the season. The outfielder signed the contract in the same month with a $1.2 m bonus.
By December, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs for Yu Darvish and Victor. His first Rookie league game was for ACL Cubs and Low-A for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.
In 2022, he played in the High-A Level for the South Bend Cubs and played in the Arizona Fall League. In the following year, it was his breakout season, where he played for the Tennessee Smokies in Double-A. He had 289 AVG, 22 HR, 84 RBI, .917 OPS in 120 games.
For Triple-A, in the Iowa Cubs, he played 127 games. During last season, he was also added to the 40-man roster.
As of August 2025, he played in 93 games, and now he has a chance to finally debut in the MLB, after Migiel Amaya’s injury.
