During the interview in 2023, John Novak recounted his son Tommy’s path to 100 NHL games.
John called Tommy lucky as he got the opportunity to play with Nashville, and the organization has also been fantastic to him. He added,
“I’m extremely proud of him,” “To get even one game in the NHL is a huge accomplishment. To get to 100 is amazing. And Tommy has had to come through a lot of adversity to get to this point.” “He’s always loved the game,” “You have to love the game to continue to play through the amount of injuries and things he had to go through earlier in his career. He was lucky to get another opportunity with Nashville and the organization has been fantastic to him. Milwaukee was really good to him and coached him there. It all added up to getting to where he is, and maybe it’s not exactly the timeline he wanted, but it happened this way.”

Tommy also thanked John and said his father played a more significant role in his success. He said,
“[He taught me] to believe in myself,” Tommy said. “Sometimes, whether it’s the college level, the AHL or here, it’s easy to get down on yourself. And I think he just instilled confidence in me from a young age. He’s always believed in me, so he made me believe in myself as well.”

During the call, his mother remembered when Tommy tried out his first AAA team and was nervous about getting out of the car. He added,
“My mom, right away, said she just got flashbacks to when I was going to try out for my first AAA team and I was too nervous to get out of the car,”“She pushed me to go in, and the rest is history.”
