Born on August 31, 1979, Mickie Laree James began her wrestling career in 1999 on the independent circuit under the ring name Alexis Laree.

She gained national attention in 2002 when she joined NWA: Total Nonstop Action (TNA), where she was part of a stable called The Gathering.
