Matt Bush is currently a free agent.

Matt Bush, an American professional baseball pitcher, is in the spotlight for his arrest for driving while intoxicated after a crash in Arlington, Texas.

He attempted to flee the scene, and his vehicle crashed into a 2023 Chevy Silverado.

Highlights

  • Matt Bush is detained in the Arlington City Jail for evading arrest, DWI, and accident involving injury. His bail is set at $35,000.
  • Police tried to pull him over for driving erratically, but he fled the scene and crashed at E. Pioneer Parkway and S. Collins Street.
  • Previously, he served 39 months in prison for seriously injuring 72-year-old motorcyclist Tony Fufano.

Matthew Brian Bush played shortstop while attending Mission Bay High School, and his arm strength and defense made him a top major league prospect.

San Diego Padres drafted him with the first overall draft pick in the 2004 Major League Baseball draft. He received the second-largest signing bonus of $3.15 million ever given to a Padres draft pick.

He was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays on February 10, 2009, and they put him on a zero-tolerance policy.

Later, Matt signed with the Tampa Bay Rays on January 28, 2010, and the Texas Rangers on December 18, 2015.

He signed a one-year, $1.85 million contract with the Milwaukee Brewers on August 1, 2022, and returned to the Texas Rangers organization on July 12, 2023.

Matt Bush Had Several Alcohol-Related Incidents That Kept Him In Jail

Matt Bush is detained in the Arlington City Jail for one count of evading arrest, one count of DWI, and one count of accident involving injury. His bail is set at $35,000.

Authorities tried to pull over his 2023 Lincoln Aviator on Pioneer Parkway for driving erratically.

Still, he fled the scene and crashed at the intersection of E. Pioneer Parkway and S. Collins Street.

Arlington police said Matt ran into a red light and crashed into a 2023 Chevy Silverado, followed by a 2010 GMC Yukon and a 2008 Toyota Corolla that were stopped at the traffic light.

He also tried to flee the scene on foot, but spectators detained him and took him to the hospital alongside Chevy’s driver.

Police officers suspected Matt was drunk based on his statements and other observations.

He refused a roadside sobriety test and didn’t speak to investigators about the crash.

However, his blood samples were collected for further investigations.

Furthermore, Matt was arrested on suspicion of felony assault, disorderly conduct, underage drinking, and misdemeanor trespass after he fought with security who tried to escort him out of a bar.

He assaulted a high school lacrosse player with a golf club while screaming, “I’m Matt fu*king Bush,” at San Diego High School in early 2009.

In 2012, he seriously injured 72-year-old motorcyclist Tony Tufano and fled the scene, running over his head in Brandon Guyer’s Dodge Durango. Luckily, Tony was wearing a helmet.

Moreover, Matt’s blood alcohol content was 0.18 at the time of his crash, and he served 39 months of a 51-month sentence.

Nonetheless, he was banned from driving legally in Florida for 10 years after his release from prison in 2015.
