Maple Grove, Minnesota, is still grieving the loss of 28-year-old ultrarunner Daniel “Danny” Domres, who tragically died in September 2022 from Kratom toxicity.
Following his death, his mother, Julie Taylor Domres, publicly shared the official cause of death, hoping that transparency would prevent other families from facing the same tragedy.
Born on July 4, 1994, to parents Tom and Julie Domres, Danny attended school in Bloomington, which later led him to join the U.S. Army.
After serving his country for a period, Danny returned home and struggled with Kratom toxicity.
After fighting through his battle, he became a dedicated marathon and ultramarathon runner, achieving sobriety and earning multiple championship titles.
He placed first at the Icebox 480 eight-hour race in 2021, covering 56 miles, and won the Chippewa 50K in 2021.
Additionally, he finished fifth at the Black Canyon 100K in 2021 with an impressive time of 8 hours and 36 minutes.
Earlier, he won the O’Brien Trail 50K in 2020 and took first place at the Wild Hare 50-mile race in 2020.
Ultrarunner Daniel “Danny” Domres’ Death in 2022 Still Raises Awareness About Fake Energy Drinks!
Recently, Texas native Debi Johnston shared a post from Danny’s mother about his death, highlighting the risks of energy drinks that are not actually safe energy boosters.
In the post, Danny’s mother shared the transparent cause of his death, stating that the official cause was “acute mitragynine toxicity.”
Initially, it was reported that Danny had a slightly enlarged heart, which some thought might have contributed to his death.
However, the final reports indicated that Kratom toxicity was the actual cause.
Danny’s family had not heard of Kratom before his death, but learned afterward that it can act on the same brain receptors as opioids, creating dangerous and addictive effects.
According to the medical examiner, Danny likely lost consciousness, stopped breathing, and then experienced cardiac arrest.
Following Danny’s death, his mother, Julina, has connected with other parents across the country who have also lost young adults to Kratom.
She believes that many cases have been overlooked due to strong lobbying efforts that promote Kratom as safe and natural.
She and her family now feel a responsibility to speak openly and warn others, especially because Kratom can be purchased easily in gas stations and smoke shops in most states.
