Marco Degli Uomin Parents Hoped To Hear A Good News But It Never Came

Marco Degli Uomin texted," Mom, I fell. I must have broken my legs. Don't worry."

Tolmezzo, Italy: Marco Degli Uomin, a promising young Italian skier, was the son of Cristina Barbarino, a respected medical professional and the head of the emergency medical service (SUEM) in Pieve di Cadore, Italy.

His tragic passing at 18 due to a fatal fall on the slopes of Zoncolan in Friuli Venezia Giulia has deeply affected his family and the skiing community. His accident occurred on March 8, and he passed away the next day.

Highlights

  • Marco Degli Uomin’s father is a plumbing and heating technician, and his mother is a medical professional and the head of SUEM in Pieve di Cadore, Italy.
  • He was planning to open the superG of the regional children’s championships for kids aged 14 to 16.
  • He had trained to lead the SuperG race when he lost control and fell on slope 2 of Zoncolan.

Marco Degli Uomin, originally from Tolmezzo, specialized in short track and was the Italian junior skating champion. He was also an expert skier and had participated in international competitions since 2022.

He was in his last year at the technical industrial institute and idolized Kristian Ghedina, a downhill champion from Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Marco trained on Mount Zoncolan and was supposed to be the trailblazer for a SuperG race. Sadly, his tragedy left a legacy of determination, kindness, and boundless potential.

He was a bright and talented young skier whose passion for the mountains and the sport he loved inspired all who knew him. He was a team player and would have been a great ski instructor.

The Fisi Regional Committee suspended its activities until the funeral.

We are shocked. The world of regional and national skiing is close to the family and the Monte Dauda ski club in this very difficult moment.

Marco Degli Uomin’s mother, Cristina Barbarino, is the head of the Suem in Pieve di Cadore (Belluno) and former vice president of the Alpine Rescue of Friuli Venezia Giulia. His father is a plumbing and heating technician.

His parents immediately heard the news, and in a frantic effort to be near their son, they hoped to listen to the good news, which never came.

Marco was to open the superG of the regional children’s championships for kids aged 14 to 16, but fate had a different plan for him.

He was training to lead the way in the SuperG race when he fell on slope 2 of Zoncolan, before the facilities opened to the public.

Unfortunately, he lost control of his skis and fell 40 meters, violently impacting the snow. Doctors provided first aid on site and took him away with the Suem helicopter from Pieve di Cadore.

At the time of the incident, very few people were skiing, the lifts had just started, and two friends were ahead of him.

His condition worsened once he arrived at the hospital, and sadly, his heart stopped beating after a few hours.

Marco was a beloved figure; many remember him in their heartfelt posts.

We want to remember you like this Marco, happy on skis, the same ones that tragically took you away from all of us. Thank you for your immense heart, thank you for your sincerity, thank you for your availability, thank you for your loyalty and fairness. You will always be with us.

The Monte Dauda Club

Marco grew up surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Dolomites and displayed an extraordinary talent for skiing, quickly rising through the ranks of competitive skiing in Italy.

His untimely departure is a heartbreaking loss for his family, the world of skiing, and the community of Pieve di Cadore.
